Cash for clunker E55?
Anyone trying to get rid of there E55? I saw one guy trying to do this with his C36. What I really want is to get back into an E55.
I'd be interested in someone's. I'm thinking about selling my 94 540i, but I may be up to taking a high mileage E55. There may not be any out there, but you never know.
Let me know if someone has a cheap maybe high mileage one.

I saw a post that a fairly low mile (75k) E55 went at auction for $7k recently. It had some bumper damage, but not major. You might find something close to that price. I doubt you will literally find a clunker (as in only worth $4,500) unless it's really beat up, like an insurance total for collision damage.

I'd have to sell may car, so I can't depend on the auction to have something once I sell.

Hmm, those do seem old and high ^^
I'd be interested in a super cheap W210 E55 if anyone knows of one as well.![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
$7K for only 75K miles?

Manheim auctions used to be a great place to find deals- but recently it's easier to find a deal locally or via the internet.

BTW, there is an E-Class in the local Autotrader here with 160K Miles, going for $8K, seems well maintained, etc. I'll find and post the Link if interested.
Also found a nice blacked-out-modded one for $6K, missing its front bumper though, looks like the Dealer selling it specializes in selling broken yet not necessarily Salvaged cars for good deals.

Remember, just because you can buy an E55 AMG cheap, does not mean it will end up being a cheap purchase. If it hasn't been maintained properly it could take an easy $2-3k just to get her up to maximum performance (plugs, wires, oil change & O2s are easily over $1k alone with labor). Auction cars can typically be "story cars" as well with little to no maintenance history, plus some of them could have their trannies going out as well so keep all these factors in mind.

The main reason I wouldn't want to pay high dollar for a W210 E55, is due to the scare of having to spend tons of money to maintain/fix it, in fact, that's the main reason I'm talking myself out of seriously considering it. All of that of course reflects re-sale value, etc.
No prob:
2000 E55, 160K Miles, $8.2K

2002 E55, Modded & Damaged, $6.9K

Oh of course, such is the story as to why old M-B's, especially Hi-Po M-B's become dirt cheap, they're still engineered to be ultra high $$ cars.

BTW, don't be scared of these cars. Every model has a bad egg, but these AMG are one of the best. I had one already for two years, and only put plugs and wires into it. They are great cars. Don't let everyone scare you...Think about it...everything they just said applies to every car.

Wise words indeed. Michael Sheehan also cautioned about the "low miles" issue.

Its worth it to spend $1-2k more on a car that has a better maintenance history and under 100k miles. Remember, a super low miles car is also not good either b/c it means none of the major maintenance (typically between 70-80k miles) has not been performed yet (speaking from experience with AMGs under 50k miles). Its better to get an AMG with 80k miles but all maintenance done, then a 60k one with none of the major maintenance components replaced (plugs/wires, O2 sensors, coils, etc etc). Also, lots of the other components wear more so on an age basis than purely mileage basis, so if you are getting around to the 8 year mark alot of the original components simply begin to fail no matter how low the mileage may be.
Hope that helps

Year 2000 160K miles is a lot of mileage. If you can DIY then might be a good idea. spend other $2k for new parts then total cost will be $10K
But if u r not too handy then its different story.
Try to find a 80K - 90K for $12K will be better buying a 160K miles.

Cash for toasters
Nancy "toast" Pelosi has introduced a new program that is being called "Cash for Toasters." If you trade in your old technology toaster for a new one capable of creating green toast, you will receive a rebate from the newly created Office Of Toaster Warming, and a letter signed by an Aide to president obama, along with a special toaster certificate. Forget these silly cash for clunkers, and hop the cash for toasters program before it runs out of money!

Of course I work on my own cars. I did quite a bit on my last 2000 E55. That's why I want another one.

Honestly 160k is just too much.... at that point the transmission is usually on its last legs and many of the bands are probably wearing down inside the transmission. Its best to get the lowest price well maintained one you can find under 100k miles.
