how to chck oil level on dip stick

hi guys i know its a crazy question but what is the proper oil level when chcking the oil tru the dip stick?

should it be on the word written MAX?
should it be on the arrow?
should it be on the bottom of the word MAX?

i have been checkin my oil tru the speedometer and its saying that the oil level is ok but when i checked it on the dip stock the oil level is all the way up to the word MAX.......is it too much oil or is it ok? thanks

I think you are O.K.

On my car, if there is too much oil the car will tell me "REDUCE OIL LEVEL". If I remember, I had to go to the oil level measure screen before I would see that. I think that is too sensitive though because the dipstick level was only at MAX (not above) when I would see the message.

oh ok so if it tells me im in OK level that means i dont have too much oil on the car? cause when i checked the dipstick a week ago it was pass more than the plastc orange level checker on the dipstick its up to the wire already but still the computer is telling me that my oil level is ok and not too much.. weird.... then i decided to remove about 1/8quart of oil to put it on the MAX level lettering. then still its saying its ok, so i guess my oil level is on the right level??? thanks

I still think you were O.K. before.

If your dipstick is like mine, you are O.K. if you are anywhere between the MIN and MAX marks. Some people don't trust the car's oil level sensor amd say the sensor can go bad. For this reason, if you are in doubt, it's always better to check the level by using the dipstick. As far as I know, that is foolproof.

My Clk55 dipstick is on the same side(passenger side). So make sure the car is leveled before checkng the dipstick. If the car is slightly tilted you get a false reading.

on the max or just below it are both fine. do not overfill past that.

a good rule to follow if you drain the oil from the drain plug is to put in 8.5 qts when you change the oil and filter. If you use an extractor it's a little less.

You should check the oil when the engine is cool, best time is before starting in the morning. Otherwise you should wait several hours after driving to make sure all of the oil has drained back into the pan.

Not too sure about that mate ! Any motors I've had by the book is to check oil when hot . Wait a few minutes after turning off, take stick out, wipe clean, re-insert then out to check level. Oil is OK anywhere on the ribbed section between Max and Min. The more in there the more splash lube you get at the bottom end. Too much in there and your intake could suck in heavy oil vapour from the breather gas recirculation and give you a misfire when you go or full power as happened to me when a cowboy garage did oil change before I bought. I drained off 1 and 1/2 litres !!
Cheers lads,
