E55 Air filter element

I have just bought me a 2002 E55 AMG from germany and before I'm going to use it (and buy plates for it, 25 000$) I'm having a full service on it.
I was wondering about the air filter. In the parts catalogue it says HWA1040940104 quantity 2. in K&N it says 33-2747 = A6040940604 quantity 2. The HWA1040940104 filter inserts are twice the price of A6040940604.

What exactly is this original HWA1040940104 filter element?

May I use K&N 33-2747? Is it any better than original? Are there any downsides with using this K&N filter?

Down side to K&N is excess oil can damage your mass air sensor.

Enjoy the new ride

and i'm still supposed to have two pieces? this filter is much larger than the k&n filter if that k&n filter fits into my 220cdi, OM611, which it is said to do.. it looks like this e55 filter is about twice the size of the one I have in my 220cdi.

is this a great deal if he will ship to norway?

over here in norway one piece of filter element costs over 100 us dollars.. crazy ****..

how about these spark plug wires he sells?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...Q5fAccessories

Original wires here in norway will cost over one thousand dollars. Not from dealer, but from a shop which is much cheaper on most parts..

Not sure if i need new wires now, but i'm changing the plugs soon, and then I will see if I also need new wires.

The car has about 115 000 miles on it. Not sure what has been changed. serviced at authorized mercedes dealer though..

Yes the K&N filters are less than half as thick, thats normal. The only think that matters is the overall dimensions of the frame, the thickness doesn't matter.

If you are bringing it from germany are you getting it converted over to US spec (US cats?). Nothing wrong with K&Ns, people been using them for years with zero issues. The filter oils is more a forum myth than anything else, out of the box they rarely cause issues, only if you over oil them with the oil recharge kit will it cause issues and even then they are minor. You can always clean your MAS with 91% alcohol and it will be almost like new.

If you decide to go with K&N be sure to wipe them down with a Towel and let air dry. They are packed w/excessive oil. When it's time to re-charge them (clean) don't plan on driving the car the same day or at least keep the stock one's in for a day. I usually let mine air dry (in sun) and completely dry before re-installing no issue's for the last 5 Cars/10+ Years and don't get oil spray happy.

You don't need to change the wires, just the plugs.

It was actually the frame size I thought looked different.. but it's probably just how it looks on the pictures.

I live in Norway, Europe, so no, I won't convert it to US spec

Are there really any performance gain from using K&N?
