if u have ams headers.....how much performance have u gained and r u happy with them?

If you are going to do exhaust, its actually cheapest to just do everything at once b/c alot of the labor overlaps. Doing headers, x-pipe & high flow 2nd cats all at once will save both time & money and it will allow all the other components to function optimally. At a minimum, do X-pipe & 2nd cats at same time since both are next to each other and both require welding.

Just to give rough comparison of the gains to expect as far as what you actually feel, the headers gain more than the X-pipe + 2nd cats + ECU combined... it really does transform the car, especially in the 2300-3500rpm range. In doing so the tranny ECU is actually smart enough to adapt & adjust and it actually changes the shift points to compensate for the new torque so it downshifts alot less b/c it simply doesn't need to. Makes the car behave alot more like a manual than an automatic when driving in "3" tiptronic & etc. All the other mods are nice... but the real Achilles heel of the M113 is the stock exhaust manifolds... they are pure junk.

Stage 2 is now only $1499 w/ free domestic shipping. Headers alone are now only $1099 w/ free domestic shipping. All prices are now firm and will remain at these levels, so if you have been waiting now is the best time to buy them. No more group buys or etc.

Excellent, then you are already set up for maximum power. The ECU tune is the icing on the cake but not much more then that. Low double digits is a realistic estimate, don't expect much more then that. All these claims of 25+ HP are pure fanatasy, after all, think about it... do you really think AMG left that much power on the table from the factory? The ECU helps, but its really only meant to fine tune and finish off all the hardware... nothing more.

Have a look at the SLK55 AMG section, there where a guy who installed AMS headers on his SLK55 with nice gains and results. Don't think i ever seen a W210 with AMS headers here?

BTW, can you give a full exhaust setup on your car? Do your have a rear muffler or is it straight pipes from the manifoilds? Sounds awesome!

The gains on the W210 E55 AMGs should be the highest of all the NA AMGs just these W210 E55s love NA power mods and have the best exhaust system for it. In conjunction w/ the high flow 2nd cats & X-pipe the car really will come alive compared to its stock form.

It sounds great to me!! I'm guessing you have an X-pipe and res. delete. And what muffler? Im running a magnaflow. I'm also still running cats. In CA you can't just cut out the cats dam smog laws

Thanks for your positive remarks. They really do transform the way the car behaves more than any other modification, but its just hard to express into words exactly how well they work on these NA 55s AMGs. The stock manifolds really are the Achilles's heel of the W210 E55. Most save this mod for last, but in reality it should be the first mod anyone performs on their AMG.

i have everything cut out starting from secondaries to tips>>>replaced with custom x-pipe into str8t pipes into eisenman race exhaust

car responds so much better now and pulls harder especially in 3rd gear

When we sayd don't touch the OEM amg muffler is talking about performance.. Amg made in the W210 the best muffler ever, is 100% free flow without backpressure.. You only need to change the muffler when you search about loud sound, But technicaly the AMG muffler works exelent as is!

Other words: changing the muffler you payd by sound, but any about performance

It's the same reason why to not touch the intake side of things. AMG has done an amazing job extracting performance on an every day reliable car.

There are small things you can do: X-pipe, K&N.

These cars aren't your typical muscle or import car, where you can slap on an "intake" or bigger exhaust pipes and a straight through muffler and get gains. MB already thought of those things and has balanced the car to fit the MB personality as well as hit pricing goals.

That's why in AMG's you see Headers, Pulleys, X-Pipe, ECU Tunes, Cooling Mods (on the S/C'd engines) as common mods for these cars.

Aftermarket mufflers are mainly just for sound, and I personally love having a relatively quiet beast lurking under my hood.

Yes the OEM muffler is the best muffler period... and may be one of the best OEM mufflers AMG ever made period on any of their models. Its a fantastic design.

You will get ALL the sound you need from headers, high flow 2nd cats, & X-pipe... The biggest sound change is from headers, next the 2nd cats, then X-pipe. ESH is right, with OEM muffler you keep the stealthy characteristics at part throttle, but when you open her up WOT... she turns from Dr. Jekyl to Mr. Hyde

Kind of curious...does anybody in this forum has a picture of their pipes with high flow cats and x-pipe set up. I saw a few under body pictures of just x-pipe with straight thru pipes but not the high flow cats.

My next question is, anybody in Connecticut knows a good muffler shop that knows what I mean when I pull out all the hardward and ask them to assemble the pieces together. I'll have to bring jtbeche's pictures to show them.
