Did I just blow my engine?

Started up my 99 E55 today and she jerked so I shut her off. Then I tried starting it on and heard a POW! Opened the hood and after some time and work saw the intake manifold was cracked. As of right now that's all I know what you guys think is wrong with it? Possibly bad injector?

What is the cause of this happening because it seems unclear? I want to fix what may have caused the problem to prevent it again in the future.

Unknown bought the car awhile ago with "~40k" on odo but highly doubt that figure. Although, it was sold to me with the knowledge that mileage was unknown and no estimate was given. So far havent had any other issues and the car has been great and in pristine condition. It looks like 70k mile car in terms of my visual perception.

I've got one spare untouched intake manifold left, I had three and was porting and polishing one. It is from either the C43 or ML55 should be exact same M113 part. $250?

Be glad your not one of the members with port/polish work on it as that would be a very sad waste of $...

Yeah saw that but it's a bit unclear and as you said it was a guess. I was hoping the op on that would have followed up with bit more details.

Just ordered intake manifold and searching for place to buy the fuel injectors at decent price. I plan on replacing all 8 injectors so this doesn't happen again.

Turned out to be just a faulty injector and manifold needing replacement. Changed injectors, manifold and all associated gaskets. Car is running great again!

This seems to be coming more of a problem as these cars age. This may be a good time to point out how crucial it is to keep ones fuel system running clean. Use seafoam regularly and do a full injector cleaning service every 20-30k in order to keep the fuel rails & injectors completely clean.

Glad everything has been resolved albanian benz.

Albanianbenz,

Quick question, can you tell me if it was the injector for cylinder #8 that was faulty?

I had that happen to me on a w211 with a 113 v8 and mine was a leaky injector.

The dealer changed the injector and the ME control unit.

"Did I just blow my engine?"

...if your lips are lightly burned and caked in 10W-30 motor oil and road grime, then yes.

It was the one furthest to the front I assume that's cylinder #1.

Any cylinder injector can have the faulty, a back-fire is inside the plenum, broken in, but any injector can made this fault
