As the owner of a tectite E55, I can say that it is as nice in person. It's an unusual color, it's very grey in daylight or sun, but in darker settings almost looks black. I don't think the cars are to the collectible point where color has any real influence in price (or ever will be), but I think tectite is more sought after simply because it is unusual.
Something else I have noticed on every tectite car I have seen is they all have the very dark grey interior. Almost looks black to some, but when you look at it you notice it is grey - different from the black or two-tone interior on other W210 E55. This with the grey wood makes a very monotone impression.

Agreed with loving the tectite but I wouldn't have paid more for it. I've always loved black cars as, in my opinion, there's no better color when it's properly detailed. But I think I'm going to have to go away from black next time. It's just too damn hard to keep clean and looking great. Silver has to be the way to go for me next time.

Tectite might be almost as hard to keep clean as black. It shows every imperfection. Sure looks good after a wax and detail though.
If/when I replace my car, I'd probably go with silver or light blue...the latter is an odd choice, but I had a beautiful blue W126 once and it matched well with my blue fintail. I know the W212 E63 can be had in quartz blue...maybe not the toughest looking color, but it would be cool with my old car. I like to have something different.

Be aware that a car with under 60k miles at this point may have sat and been neglected more than a higher mileage car that was driven and maintained. There's a point where low miles actually becomes worse. For example, it might have low miles because it was always in the shop and the owner was afraid to drive it and since it sat, the oil/tires/misc parts never got changed.

It is always a gamble buying a used car I suppose.
I will have to sit on the side line for awhile...my wife wants the an 07-09 S550.
More luxury but more headaches???
