Two fans; one spins; the other does not.

The two electric fans in front of the radiator work in unison (I assume) through the use of a belt. There is no belt. I took a shot in the dark and ordered, and received, an auxiliary fan belt. It appears to be the correct belt. Unfortunately, what I thought would be a simple procedure, is not. How is this belt applied? Can someone please throw me a bone here?

I replaced one of the fans a few years ago. I don't recall it as a difficult DIY. You should be able to change the fan on your own.

Thanks anyway. Looks like a simple application. It's just about finding the appropriate route to it. I may have to just start tearing away at the front end.

My mechanic says it needs a belt that is missing. He wants $75 parts/labor. I ordered the part for less than $6.00. I just need to find the route to install it.

The belt will still be there, they eventually harden and fall off. Its a simple but fiddly job. Start by taking the top radiator supprt off, undo the fans and push the condesor backwards a bit untilo you can get your hand inbettween the fan and the condensor. Put the belt o 1 pulley and roll it onto the 2nd pulley. Not a hard job, just takes a little time. Remember to take the old belt out (it will have fallen to the bottom).

I do remember both fans spinning if you spun one of them. I'm glad you found that your problem was just a $6 belt.

I just realized my car's aux fan belt is broken too. Where did you order your belt from?

Finally got around to replacing my auxiliary fan belt. A fairly simple DIY which required a phillips screwdriver, a 10mm socket, and a 13mm socket to remove the horn. Replacing the fan belt assembly was the only PITA. Just dropping it straight in was the best method. Nonetheless, a PITA. BTW, I found the old stretched out belt at the bottom of the radiator. And, I removed all the debris in front of the radiator while I was there. Many thanks for all your replies. And, my hat off to Fabio D for an excellent pictorial link.
