Opinions on this E55

I'm thinking about buying this 55 from florida. It was registered in the houston area at the time of hurricane ike.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-...217#vi-content

Wondering if anyone has seen this car or what anyone thinks about trusting it to be not damaged. I live in minnesota so, i would have to have it inspected out of state. Also do you think I could offer a lower number since it has a bad history. I bought a c230k from houston last year when I was down there and drove it back. I haven't had any problems with that car at all.

Looks clean but for a little bit more $$ you can get an 02 without a rebuilt title

Clean title that car is worth maybe $11k. It would be closer to $9k or $10k, except the interior and exterior are really clean. Salvage, especially on a flood and not a theft or accident, I think you should be looking lower. The possibility for electrical issues, now or down the road, is very high. I wouldn't be surprised if it either sits or goes for $8 or even less.

I might have to get rid of mine soon. It's 01 with 77k on it. Maintenance history + recently serviced a week ago (transmission flush etc.), I believe they even warranted the tranny when they did it. Recommended maintenance in near feature are Front brakes and Front shocks are leaking a lil. Clean / Clear title + full history report + full inspection. I might have to move back over seas in a month, so either I'd have to sell it or it'll go to family member. Located in Oregon.

Electrical problems was my main concern as well. I read that some where affected by the water and some weren't. It's just that the paint and interior are in almost perfect condition, and it's the colors i've been waiting for.

Do you think an offer of 7.5 would be fair? How much could the electrical problems run me if I had to start replacing sensors and wires on the bottom of the car?

I couldn't imagine the water if any, went any higher then the bottom of the car as it states it was garage kept and judging by the paint it looks to be the truth.

The interior might be so nice because it was all replaced in '08 after the storm.

I think at auction they can get $6k for the car, and they're probably hoping to sell for $8k. $7k is probably fair, especially if no one buys the car after a few months.

Hard to tell how high the water got. If everything dried out before they ran it, it could be fine. If not, since it's been 3 years, most stuff will have been replaced if it was truly bad. The question is if there are any gremlins that will pop up.

I have a '01 silver on black, 113 or 114k now that I am thinking about selling, I was thinking $10k. It's got a clean title, full maintenance, all the good stuff that a private owner does for his AMG. My second child arrives in April so although I hate to see it go we probably need to, let me know if interested. I can fly you in if we strike a deal.

Probably because it wasn't closed properly. Happened to me one time and I
got concerned. Turns out that was the case on mine.

Front end looks like its been worked on. Left front tire seems out of whack front to back in the wheel well.

its got aftermarket led taillights, cheapo lookin autozone shifter handle , missing the trim ring around the shifter, wheels look to be replica , your best bet would be to contact the seller , ask him if anything else comes with the car , if he has any paperwork of previous work done to it , body , electrical , mechanical .. I wish u would of listed this last week as i was 5 miles away from there .. I personally would pass on it and look for something else ..

When i bought mine 125k it had all dealer serviced records since being purchased in 05' with 50k miles for 45k . I purchased outside of chicago , havnt had one issue <knock on wood> except for CPS sensor <cheap> but otherwise its been heaven , this month is 1 yr i bought it and put 20k miles and loved every one of them .. if you get one which needs alot of **** changed out over the first yr or two you will be sick of it and look to get rid of it

Yeah I figured this was one I was going to pass on. I would have changed out the shift knob but once i saw that the front left wheel was all messed up that scared me away.

When I buy, i'm looking to add a supercharger from kleemann right away so, I would like one to be fairly sound when I buy it. I just figured if this one was not effected by the flooding and it was just in the area so it was label as such, I could get it on the cheap because of the title just to save money for other mods. The more people that look at it on here and pick out flaws, the more it scares me. Soo thank you everyone for your opinions, I really appreciate everything.

dont know how cheap u were gonna get it but , last year this time the seller of mine was asking over 10k for mine with extra set of rims n tires <newer e55 style replicas with toyos> same as the car u looking at but with rivets around the wheel>, clean carfax , clean title , had all oem stuff he changed out, side markers, hood star, all keys, books, nav cd's , star diag manual, sumer n winter mats ,plus the service work receipts done , and he had just changed out brakes n rotors. called him up , offered him 7 cash , he replied i got offers of 8 allday . drove to chitown from Detroit with 8cash . seen the car , drove it , had my friend/euro car somwhat mechanic test it out look it over twice . offered him 8 he took it , soon as i got home sold the rims for $600 ended up gettin the car 7,400 out the door .ONly downfall was when i went to register it still in the 70k category so registrations cost me almost $400 but i saved on paying tax for title since owner only put that i bought it for 4k . So theres deals out there u just gotta look around ..

BTW this same seller has it for sale locally for same price on CL but a month before he had it listed for 500 cheaper . i wouldnt give him more then 5K for that thing if it doesnt have a clean title . not tryin to shoot down value of our cars just MHO or personal opinion.

Yeah that sounds like a great car. I've seen some great deals in chicago lately. I hope to have an experience like yours. I'm starting to lean toward a private sale because these smaller dealerships that are buying these cars, personally i think they dont understand the market. I hate to see them not fetching what they deserve but the buyers just aren't out there to meet supply and demand. These dealers think there cars are worth soooo much more then what they're selling for. I'm going to look at a local one black on black with 77k on it and he wants 12.5! I dont have a problem with that as long as it's a premium example. I may offer 10k for it.

There's also a 2001 black on black near me thats got 125k on it and he wants 14.9k haha I'm going to call him and take a look. Then slap him with the reality of the market. He'll probly punch me if he thinks his 125k mile car is worth 15 grand but we'll see.

If you want to S/C it, you're better off just buying a W211. You can find a 100k mile W211 for well under $20k, close to $15k. You're going to have a hard time buying a W210 and a S/C for that price, even if you do all the labor yourself. If you pay someone to install, you're going to be way over. These are great cars, but if you're shooting for 500 hp, it's cheaper and easier to go with something already F/I.

Yeah I've thought about that but I just have a love for the 210 and I'm afraid of the earlier model 211's I've heard nothing but bad things. Plus something about owning something custom that not very many other people have. In minnesota a s/c w210 is one of a kind, and a sleeper. There's just some who would rather not deal with the headahe of a custom build and some people who love the ride. I'm one of thoose people. Thank you for the information though.

Yes and no. The W210s are far better built than the W211s up to around mid 05. Beyond that the W211s are good enough to be reliable.

There are some members here that are very experienced with Kleeman W210 and reliability (Abalone). I would do some research before you go that way.

There also is one more Kleeman screw-type blower kit for sale, new right now. If that's your plan, you may want to jump on it.

I agree the W210 is better built and more reliable than the W211, but any time you make major modifications on a car, you're throwing reliability out the window. I would say that at best, it's a draw between a aftermarket S/C W210 and a factory W211, reliability wise.

The W210 has a big weight advantage, though, which is nice.

Yeah that silver one is a members car, I'm exchanging some p.m's with him right now. Plus i'm a diehard benz man, I couldn't become a trader to my love. It's a damn nice car though and a good deal for some great horsepower.

Ventilated seats? I wasn't aware that was even an option on W210's.

It was quick. Headers and X Pipe would probably be faster, though. The intake and tune (what's in the Stage 1 package) offer the worst bang for the buck, compared to the exhaust side (header and x pipe).
