new brake pads and more

Let me start off by first saying I have done some searching both here and out on the net.

I need new brake pads and after doing some reading I'm fairly set on some Akebono pads. I'm sick of all the dust.

So, after doing some more looking I see the old 2 person pump bleed won't work so I guess I need to get a power bleeder as well. Also a good time to put some ATE Super Blue in too. Maaaaybe I'll do SS lines, but maybe not.

My question really is what's the best (cheapest) place to round up all this stuff online? I know Tirerack has a decent price on the pads, but other than that I'm not sure where else to look. Any suggestions?

Actually I didn't wait long. Just decided to go with rockauto. They're always super cheap. Got the front and rears with shipping for $122. As far as the other stuff, I'll just get something local and do it.

Edit: I think tirerack for the pads was about $125 plus $13 for shipping.

You will love the Akebono. They have a nice bite, just make sure to break them in slow. You will notice on colder days they tend to take longer to heat up. Overall A+ no break dust and stop on a dime. I bought min on Amazon.

Did you end up needing Rotors as well? I think I need rotors, at 80 -90 while stopping hard I'm getting the pulsating action. Prob. will do some front end change to see if its my sway bar link or tire/rod -inner/outer first. (or bushing)

I might not be taking the correct approach with this, but I'm ignoring the rotors for now. I don't have any pulsating going on when I brake and I'm replacing the pads early enough I shouldn't grind into my rotor or anything. So for now, I'm just going with pads and hope that's good enough for the time being.

I normally don't replace rotors unless they are out of spec.

I guess I should have looked at the diy for the rear brakes. Didn't realize the rear caliper basically split in half to get the brake pads out. Of course doing that gets air into the system. I didn't bother picking up a power bleeder, so I did my best and did the old two man bleed, but it didn't matter. I can basically push the pedal to the floor without locking up the brakes. It's complete mush. Guess I need to get a power bleeder now.

Edit: Yes, I realize the pins could just come out....for some reason just seemed easier to take it apart and change it quickly.

OMG, you took the caliper apart? You're not supposed to do that unless you're planning to rebuild the calipers. haha It takes 10 mins tops to do it.

Hey friends! i have a question on akebono's pads. i know this: at minor pads wear, minor dust but mayor disc wear (its logical). AMG discs in this cars are really expensive. I like no dust in my wheels but someone with akebono pads note some exesive wear in the brake discs?

Fabio,

I have been running Akebono Euro Ceramic pads on stock rotors for over a year - all round - Nice ... no dust... brake discs -ok - no problems.

I drive easy though...
