Recommend me spark plugs?

Hey guys,
I'm planning on changing the spark plugs next week. Which ones in your opinion are the best? Bosch Platinum +4, Bosch IR Fusion +4 or should I look into NGK etc.?

2001 E55 AMG

I'd stick with the OEM. Autohaus has them for only $4.50 each

I've got the Bosch Platinum +4 plugs in my car. My mechanic recommended them and I got them from Autohaus.

The 4418 plugs work fine in my car. The stock plugs were shot but I still have a mis-fire at idle. It looks like that's most likely an injector issue though.

Nope. After spending $700 on parts and labor for maintenance stuff I didn't want to drop the money on them. He hooked it up to their diagnostic machine (not STAR) and thinks it's an injector issue. It only does it when it's cold so it doesn't bother me that much. I need to do front wheel bearings, shocks and brakes soon, so the misfire issue is pretty low on my list. I'm selling my Brabus wheels/tires to pay for that stuff.

I've also got a vibration from 43-54mph that we're trying to figure out (it's not tire/wheel related). The rear camber kit is going on this weekend and the car is getting a full alignment. I'm doubting that will fix it though.

I'm glad I've got a friend that works at an indy that can do side jobs for me. There's no way I'd be able to afford this stuff otherwise.

Guys! i notice the same misfire at idle on cold too! but only in the 00+ model! in our garage we have some customers with this cars: 3 x 1999 and 5 x 2000+ the pre-facelifted cars not comes with this issue, the new generation "yes" in all 5 cars!

Maybe is some related to the engine firing order, the preface cars comes with one firing order and the new models comes with different one. is pretty crazy i know :S but yes..

1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 = pre-face cars

1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 = Post-face cars

I think there has to be something that's messed up though. The car doesn't always have the misfire when cold, just most of the time. It also needs to sit idling for maybe 20+ seconds before it starts doing it.

If it was because of the firing order it would have been a problem on these cars when new. There's no way that MB/AMG would have let them leave like that.

Here's my mechanic's plan of attack now. I'll probably go ahead and do wires before having him check into this though. My plug wires are original, so it's time to swap them anyways.

What I might be able to do is read each coil individually and compare the spark lines. It's tricky because the computer isn't registering a misfire. It probably would have been smart to change the wires when we did the plugs, but at nearly $300 for a wire set it's a hard sell to guess and be wrong. Just checked, autohausaz has the set for $166.
He also thinks it could be an injector issue.

Defo change the wires, specially if they are originals. OEM plugs will suffice and are more than necessary. I still await proof that high price plugs are supposedly better. Lets see some figures.

Try a few bottles of Techron per bottle instructions and Shell 93 octane gas before you start changing injectors, Air flow sensors and so on. Change your air filters with oem MB.

Lots of dodgy gas this year for environmental reasons and so on.

I always run Chevron 91 (can't get 93 here) in my car. The filters are getting changed when I get Service B done in about 1200 miles.

I know that :S amg don't leave the cars with this issue i'm sure. but i only comment what we notice in the shop. all 5 new generation cars have this issue, very perceptible when you stop and leave the car run a little with the brake pedal just a little depressed.

Hope you guys solve the problem soon

I figured you knew that, but your post made it sound like that was the reason.

I was hoping to get the car in this Saturday for my friend to work on it, but it turns out the parking lot where the shop is is getting repaved (can't get into the shop). It's going to have to wait for a couple more weeks now.

did this over the weekend. and used NGKs. runs beautifully. had a hickup with the MAF sensor but cleaned it and now it runs smooth.
