well I have gotten no responses so far .. but thinking about it in simplistic way .. one obvious way is to connect the power of the DRL ( Day time driving lights ) to the cigarette lighter .. thats the only item that I can think of which only has power to it either by turning to the ON position or engine running ... does this make any sense to you electric gurus out there ? Is there any harm or electric danger in that ? again the idea is to have the parking lights ( changed to LED ) or other additional lights ( LED Strips ) be on all the time with no need to switch anything .

I don't think its that easy. I looked into keeping the fogs on while high beams are on. It seems like the whole lighting system is powered from a CPU controlled module. Cutting into those circuits gave me pause enough to just live without it.

If led parking lights is what youre after, search AZN Optics. By far the best on the board as far as led oem fit bulbs. Super quick shipping, extremely helpful, and theyre not cheap made in china LEDs either

I am after having " some light/s" be on all the time , in the newer MBs , Audis, etc there are LED strips that are on allthe time " Daytime lights " ...I know there are many options to buy , question is how to wire them , W210 US cars were never set up for light to be on all the time , you have to turn the switch to turn on the driving / parking lights .

Some "Canada" models comes with all the time Xenon lights on, i have a customer that not like to stay on the lights all the time and i disable the function with the star diagnosis system, car is a silver 2002 E55 Canada Spec

Maybe some other cars would be programed to the lights stay on all the time when the car is running

Thank you Fabio , yes I knew that Canadian cars are programmed for this feature , but I really dont want all the lights on all the time , just the driving lights or some LED strips .. Plus , the dealer here in Miami is very reluctant to program the car in anyway way other then OEM , they are not helpful when it comes to SDS changes, and I dont have an SDS myself.

THEORETICALLY, you should be able to use diodes on the +12V feed. The diodes should go between the lighting control unit and the lights (with the pointed capped end towards the lights). THEN, between the diodes and the lights, you can feed the lights with another source of power without affecting the LCU. Probably throw a bulb light. Definitely experimental.

Personally I've searched for having some DRL's also .. best thing i came up with was putting some leds in the citylight and turning it on long with fogs . but if your running regular halogens or even leds .. I dont see them having enough output for DRL effect .. Now if your willing to install LEDs somwhere else on the front end then I have seen some even hockey puck shaped style like newer benz have and they power on automatically when ignition is switched on .. no toggle or wiring into system just wire + and - up ..

This is from ShaunE55 over on Benzworld.org:

"There are two kinds, one switches them on with start up and off with engine off and the other which is a legal requirement in Europe turns them on with engine and off when you turn your sidelights on.
Cheers,
Shaun."
