Hi Guys,
I know our car needs 0-40 oil but the walmart and costco in my area doesnt have any. So i bought 10-40 mobil 1. Is it ok to use this oil for a few thousand miles? What will happen if you start using a 10-40 oil? 10-40 is much easier to find than a 0-40

Thanks

I was thinkning a 5w40 oil cause its half the price and i don't drive it in the winter. 10 could increase cold oilpressure too much, but i'm not sure... No oil-pressure gauge in to compare.

Depending on where you live, 0w40 would be great if you live where i live in New England where the temps get down to zero in the winter time where the 0w will work well and 40 will be great in the summer. If you live in moderate climate where the temp does not varies that much all year round, 10w40 would be okay. I would suggest 5w40 to give it a better range. My 2 cents.

The dealers here are mostly using Mobil1 Formula M 5W40 (not the ESP variant) so that viscosity should be fine.

I think the 5w40 is the best bet if you can't find the elusive 0w40 but i wont go higher then that. Also, fyi, if you go into the Walmart website, you can always order the 0w40 mobil1 online and have it ship to the nearest Walmart store near you, for FREE and you can pick them up from there. That will be the best bet as you are getting the correct oil for the engine. just plan ahead of time for your oil change so you have the oil ordered.

It does not matter where you live or the climate. It does not matter if the oil weight is "close" meaning the numbers are similar. There are totally different additive packages in different weight oils, meaning an oil with a similar number can provide a totally inferior level of protection.

There is apparently a 5w40 non-ESP. It is not listed on the Mobil website. I have never actually seen it in a store. Most 5w40 is the ESP, which stands for Emission System Protection. It is designed to work with the new Blue Diesel motors with special emissions equipment. It is for diesel motors only, not gasoline.

If you live in the US, there is absolutely no reason to use anything other than 0w40. The 5w40 ESP is not meant for the AMG or gasoline motor, and the 5w40 non-ESP, if you can actually find it, is not going to be any better or cheaper than the 0w40.

I bought all the 0w40 Mobil 1 at walmart shelf close to where I live (Union City). Now they have none. Stock clerk says they rarely get those in stock.
Have you checked O'Riley's close to you?

The one I recommend is the Mity Vac 7400 7.3 liter fuel extractor. I have been using this extractor since my 1987 300D. One of the best and very easy to use. I bought it from amazon.com with free shipping. Don't buy the old can type topsider as you can't see the fluid when you are extracting the oil. For the E55, it fills all the way up to the top. The only drawback is it didnot come with a cork or cap. I improvise with a rubber cork from home depot, or you can transfer the oil to a plastic comtainer to bring to autozone for recycling. Other then that, this is a great unit and very easy to use.

Holy sweet god, you are right. I didn't think Walmart ever stocked it. I never see it in store. But they list it online with free delivery. If I didn't have 2 cases bought on special in my garage, I would buy more. Next time, definitely will do this.

Also very good advice. Some people recommend the 7201 because it's larger. It's also more expensive and more prone to break. You're going to need to empty the thing regardless, so the capacity doesn't matter. Get the 7400 and something to hold and transport it, like the big black plastic oil jug they have at Walmart. That'll hold about 2 changes of oil.

Thanks, I read a lot reviews for the 7400 and 7201 on Amazon and so many complains about not working and missing parts. One guy said he pump 500x to extract all the oil on his car. Maybe he is just exagerating, I mean maybe after 100x if the thing is still not working i would stop pumping

The 7400 is really nice. I haven't had a problem at all so far. You can change your oil wearing a suit and tie if you had to, because the filter is on top. Just keep a paper towel handy for your hands.

Pumping however many times is worth not having to ramp the car and get under it. If he's that lazy, he should have gotten the pneumatic version that hooks up to a compressor and pumps for you.

Also, you pump, then go get a beer, then come back, and pump more. There's a limit to how much suction the thing can generate and how fast the oil can come out. You don't need to continuously pump until it's empty. Pump, wait, pump, wait.

From my experience, if you want the oil to flow faster, take the car out and drive around a little before changing the oil. That will make the oil warm and hence will flow easier and much faster.
