Got an '02 on the way

MBWorld Fanatic!
Castrol in a MB just doesn't sound right--glad to hear you went with the superblue. It's a great all purpose brake fluid.
It may just be my ABS pump. I'll find out tomorrow. It's very reassuring hearing you say your brakes are firm. All I've read to date is how mushy they are in the entire 210 lineup.
Cheers,
Ricky

Installed the new pump, cycled the unit via DAS, bled the system again, and no improvement. I am about fed up. Time for Stoptechs I think.

Maybe it's time to try these :
http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brembo/gran_turismo.jsp?&make=Brembo&model=GT+355mm+Big+B rake+Kit&group=GT+355mm+Big+Brake+Kit&autoMake=Mer cedes-Benz&autoModel=E55+Sedan&autoYear=2002&autoModClar =
I have no affiliation and I haven't tried them, but knowing Brembo, with 355 mm slotted rotors and 4 pistons calipers,it has to be some improvement!

I'm not a big Brembo fan actually--especially as they do not make a rear BBK.
I am going to go with Stoptech Trophy 4 piston 355x32 for the front, and 328x28 4 piston rears. Both rotors are zinc plated and slotted. The Trophy kits save quite a bit of weight over a regular Stoptech BBK.

I've got a trophy kit already on one of my Porsches. It's basically the same kit, just with a different hat to support the 5x130 bolt pattern on my Porsche (until my center locks come in). Fantastic product:

Took a picture of the 55 over at my dealer when I was fiddling around with the brakes after the dyno...

While you have your front wheels off - check the lower front ball joints - if you get any play at all - change them out - these are a common replacement items on Merc's - and since you are replacing plugs and valve cover gaskets - excellent time to put that new set of Headers on and let that motor breath

I really need to get in a habit of posting here more frequently.
Anyway, the E55 has been wonderful. I've put 11,000km on it since I bought it. Would be more, but I was too busy causing trouble in the Maserati while the weather was nice. My "best" (should say "highest") MPG currently is 21.06, which was all highway driving save for maybe 75km. I changed oil about 5kkm, and the Blackstone report was outstanding. I would say these cars can go 8kkm intervals using the Motul 8100. The only issue (which I keep forgetting about and has been like this since I bought it) is the drivers seat side bolsters. They are leaking. Probably just needs new bags. I'll have Mercedes do that when they install a new windscreen. Haven't really done a whole lot else. Replaced the driver's vanity mirror (previous owner broke it) and replaced the black cap on the roof antenna which decided to eject during a spirited drive. There's an ever so slight (only noticeable to someone like myself) vibration around 150km/h, so I bought new engine mounts, transmission mount, and flex disks. Have yet to put them in though.
I took the E55 up to Estes Park on the back roads, then down Peak to Peak highway to Genesee (just on the south side of 70), ate lunch, and headed back the way I came. I made frequent pit-stops due to either scenery or slow drivers, so it took me from 9am to 5pm. The drive was a blast and the car is great. On the limit, it handles wonderfully. Much better than I was expecting. Understeer is minimal, oversteer is easily corrected with the go pedal, and best of all it doesn't feel overly large or heavy. Overall, I'm more than pleased. I am going to swap in some lower spring pads. I have a feeling that would only improve things that extra little bit.
I had no idea I would like this car so much as is. The **** racecars have given me all these wild ideas on how street cars should perform, so I'm almost impossible to satisfy when it comes to cars. The only other contenders that could threaten the life of the E55 would be a 2007 Quattroporte Sport-GT and a 2009 E63. With that said though, I really don't think I could bring myself to sell the E55 for either. Mine has just been too reliable to let go--not to mention how easy it is to live with... I can get around town with a modicum of anonymity (since it really doesn't look all that different from the million-trillion E320s around here), carries 4 people comfortable, the trunk is huge, the front bumper doesn't grind over everything, fits in my garage nicely, has plenty of holes to store all my stuff, cruises all day long between 130-180km/h, it doesn't demand constant attention (I'm not always having to add oil, check this, tighten that, clean up that drip.... I'm sure you all know how that goes), it's easy to work on, the list goes on...
What do I have planned for it? Leave well enough alone sounds like a good answer for the time being; however, I am thinking about a couple things:
I think it's about time to order an OS Giken LSD for it. I'm a little weary of spinning one wheel or another. It may also help with how frequently the traction control kicks in. I would like to make right turns without it killing all my power. The diff won't perfect things, but if it helps even a minute amount, I would be happy.
I did send an email out to MKB regarding their performance package and 300km/h speedo. Consists of cams, headers, cats, and an ECU tune. Nothing more than poking around for now.
Enough rambling already, time for more pictures. Nothing special. Just various places around the state.
These are all from the peak to peak drive.
The Falkens aren't too fond of cold and wet. Horrible tires. That's about all that can be said. Michelins are the answer.
Too many LEO's around here, so at least one of these is necessary. The Escort Redline is working fairly well. If the Redline had the V1's directional arrows, I do believe perfection would be achieved at that point.
Some beautiful weather before this weekend.
Still shiny from the Zymol surprisingly.
'02 Cambiocorsa Spyder and the E55 make an odd couple. Almost identical performance. Cambiocorsa has a little more power, but weighs 80-100kg more than the E55. Surprisingly, the E55 feels sportier than the CCS. Overall though, the Maserati is more fun as a whole.
This was the nicest thing I've seen in a long time. Went to a late night movie a couple weeks ago, and came out to find the Jeep had actually parked over from me. I'm going to pick up some Starbucks gift cards to leave on cars when they purposely park over like this. For now though, I threw a pen and some scratch paper in the car.

If you like the handling, put a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports - these tires transform the handling of the car, traction is amazing - car stays planted around turns and they are very quiet.
Lastly, you are starting to understand how under rated these cars are - for the price I cannot think of another car that delivers so much with so little fuss and cost - glad to hear you are enjoying your E55
Great photos - looks like a great road trip.
