New W210 E55 Owner w/ A Few Problems
Hey guys been an owner of a 2001 e55 AMG for a few months now and love it. But just recently I started hearing what sounds like a lifter tick coming from the valve cover on the passenger side. I was just wondering since i'm about to do the valve covers, would it be pretty simple to just take off the rocker arm assembly and change out the lifters? Looking at pics it doesn't appear the timing chain has to come off. Please send me some of your inputs guys! Thanks so much!!!!

That is not normal. If the tick is that pronounced and stays that way when you rev the motor and revs drop it is not normal. It is normal to have a tick at idle, but once you rev the motor, the tick should go away and only come back when the motor goes back to idle.
It would still be better if you could post a video of your motor to be certain about the sound.

Ok guys I'll try and get a video of my car up tomorrow. But just wondering if anybody actually changed out the lifters before and if the timing chain is required to be removed? Thanks!

Hey guys just an update after I fixed the problem! Lifters no longer tick and I found one bad lifter for an intake valve. Basically I ordered the valve lifters for the passenger side from AutohausAZ.com and went ahead and tackled the job today! Timing chain did not need to come off! Any questions just shoot me a pm. Thanks guys!
PS. Keep in mind though I also have access to a shop with tools, but no really special tools were needed.

How did you determine you had a bad lifter.. was it by it's look or sound ?
