Wait ,I'm confused!
Was your E430 originally ME2.0 with digital cluster and tiptronic?
Also, looks like your original trans would have been 722.632? did you swap in the 722.636 when you swapped the 55 engine?

C & CLK sharing a same Electrical & steering system, W210(which Fabian got) is a different thing,
can’t compared it to the C or CLK,
ME2.8 has a different CAN set-up, tip-tronic needs a difficult job to do either,,
need 100% strongly free mind & more $$$$ to complete it...!!,,

Can't tell that positively,, even some 2002 models comes with ME2.0, depend of the car specs.,
while you have W208 tiptronic gear, you can swap everything into your C43,
as i said; it needs a lot of job, mechanically is easy soo far, but the challenge with an Electrically touch....!!

Try to open the W208 CAN box and see, if the ECU started with "02xxxxx32" means you have ME2.0,
but if it started with "113xxxxx79" means ME2.8,...

Zayed,
Thankyou, you have prompted me to re-learn my EPC knowledge. I did not realise the significance of "80x" Codes.
The CLK55 is in transit, however, I can confirm that it is ME2.0!,it is Code 800 with Ident F158434
CLK55 ECU's:
ME2.0? - A029 545 08 32 Upto Ident F136790 except code 801, also installed in vehicle from F136790 with code 800
ME2.8? - A113 153 15 79 As of Ident F136790 except in vehicle code 800,also installed in vehicle up to F136789 with code 801
EPC can be very confusing if you are not trained, at first glance ident looks like ME2.8,but coding says it will be ME2.0
My CLK55 swap may not be as hard as Fabian's!.
Regards,
Paul

Always Welcome..,
Agree with you about EPC, need to know it very well to understand it perfectly,,
W202 equipped it with tip-tronic only "1" year, (99-00), W208/W210 equipped it with tip-tronic about "3" year, (99-02)
did you checked the # of the CLK’s ECU...?,
Fabian already got a tip-tronic, for that he have more advantage & chance to update the ECU & TCU,
and also can change the diff. ratio(as desired),
but in our case; we need a damn mysterious platform to go through....

Zayed,
The donor CLK55 is still in transit, should take 2 weeks to arrive.
It is a very good learning day Now I understand the codes, I have checked many part number family's and there looks to be a transition period for ME2.0 to ME2.8 where both have the digital cluster on the W208.
2000 CLK55 code 800 >F136790 has ME2.0 Tiptronic with digital cluster...ESP sensors, ESP module, tiptronic shifter ,transmission wiring harness and airbag module are Identical to tiptronic C43(not 98/99 C43).
This is why I questioned SAM, 98/99/00 C43 SAM looks to be common on all W210/202/208 - except tiptronic 208. , maybe the reason they changed at W208 tiptronic was to interface ME2.0 with new cluster, tiptronic, steering wheel and ESP etc??.
maybe to avoid changing a lot of wiring for ME2.8,CLK55 ME2.0 may be the best bet if you want to convert your C43 to C55 tiptronic with updated 208/210 cluster?
Fabian,I will start another thread on this when the car arrives as it is now clear it is not the same swap, but thank you for your help

youre welcome
as far as i know, regarding to W210 ...
- M113/M112 Engine cam 1997 with ME2.0 and the old Cluster
- 1999 came the model upgrade including the new Cluster and Tiptronic but STILL ME2.0
- As from Code "801" (Modellyear 2001) which came 07/2000 Mercedes upgraded to ME2.8 and also used a digital speedometer in the instrument cluster which can be selected via the steeringwheel buttons in the main display.
So Zayed is right, i already had the Digital Cluser and Tiptronic so no need for me to change anything at the SAM
Upgrading from None-tiptronic to tiptronic seems to be a little tough but possible.
In my Swap i first changed the whole Engine including the Transmission, but the 636 died soon so i drove for about 3 month with the 632 which is now finaly replaced by the 643 Speedshift.
greetings, Fabian

Fabian,
Was the digital cluster and steering wheel controls same for ME2.0 and 2.8?
I agree making non-tip into tiptronic could be tough, I see in EPC ME2.0 tiptronic models W210/208/202 have updated wiring harness throughout the entire car not just the trans harness and gear selector. At least having a whole donor car I will be able to see the changes and if nessasary use some of the CLK55 harness in the 202.
This would suggest the ideal swap would be tiptronic ME2.0 C43 to ME2.0 CLk55,but factory tip C43 is rare(and so are salvage ME2.0 CLk55 haha)
I plan to print out all wiring for both 99 C43 and 2000 CLK55 to compare further.

As i know; ME2.0 & ME2.8 steering & controls are the same,, but the mechanical steering system are different, between
W202/W208 & W210,
W202/W208 got a simply steering gear box with a Pitman arm and ESP+BAS module,,
W210 got a rotating Rack pinion box with "ESP+PML+BAS" module,, that’s why its soo expensive...!!
also W210 got a different trans. wiring than the W202/W208, C & CLK sharing the same harness,
and W210 tiptronic shifter assembly is little bigger than the one in W202/W208,,
MB expand the Ram/file into ME2.8 to accommodates the signals & updated more software in future periods.....

Another tipp: EGS52 wont work with ME2.0 ... the car wont fire up. If you stick to ME2.0 you have to user the correct EGS51 TCU!

maybe it has something to do with the coding. I tried to help a member with his c43 and egs52 ... no way to make it work, even not coded as w202.
very strange :/
May the point is Tiptronic ... i tried it myself in a w210 without tiptronic ... egs52 installed, car wont fire up
Maybe i could try this in the E55 from my parents ... they have ME2.0 ... then i could confirm that ME2.0 with Tiptronic WILL work with a EGS52.
Next time i lay hands on my parents car i´ll try to not forget this

Maybe depend to the version of the EGS52 authorization data/file,
and i think MB didn't put W202 coding in there SDS, they put the coding of the W208 instead of the W202,
cause they are the same,
W210 is a different set-up in SDS,
when you put the SDS coding in C43, try to coded it with W208, if it not work, i can say positively,
all W202 with tiptronic NOT came with ME2.8 & EGS52 together....!!

Zayed,
I have never seen genuine Tiptronic C55?,the C55 I have seen here is non tip, Datacard shows it as being a real C55, maybe amg only made very few C55 tiptronic?.
Interesting, C43 tiptronic has unique engine bay harness chassis side, only found on that model!.

AMG made a few W202 C55s through (Feb/99 to Sep/00),
according to the AMG history, they only produced 294 with tiptronic,
they changed a few things:-
1) Cluster from 280km to 300km,
2) Diff. from 3.07 to 2.82 with E55/CLK55 housing,
3) Driveshaft from 3 legs to 4 legs, from CLK55

Zayed,
The W202 C55 we have locally here is - WDB2020332F754312 , notice on datacard it has 722.636 trans and 113.983 engine , delivery date is 5/25/2000 but original C43 VIN shows it as code 808 build!. this does not have tip transmission,so if your friend has a genuine tip C55 that must be very very rare!.
Does your friends show gear selection on the cluster?
Regards,
Paul

Yes sure, he has the identification selection in cluster, in the clock screen,
also he got 722.636 with tiptronic,
as i know; all kind of M113 that equipped it with 722.636, should comes with tiptronic only,
722.636 ever & never comes with gater shifter like we have,
i believe, this C55, was original, but the owner somehow changed the gearbox & TCU & diff. to the C43,,
i will go and take some pics. of my friends C55 as soon as possible....

Hmn ... very strange. 722.636 is the Gearbox used in W210 E55 with Tiptronic! Also the EPC says that 202.033 allways had the 722.631 installed. W210 E55 without Tiptronic had the 722.624
Very Strange
i think the car was deliverd as C43 and was rebuild to C55 using the M113.683. The Engine Code and Transmission Code are oficially changed in the datacard of the car but when you select engine in EPC you still see the M113 with 4.3L.
Using the 636 without tiptronic is very very strange. Does the 3-2-1 work with this shifter? cant believe this transmission is used with a non tiptronic shifter.
greetings, Fabian

Fabian, everything you mentioned is correct,,
722.636 comes with an original [AMG W202 C55/ W203 C55/ W208 CLK55/ W210 E55/ W215 CL55/ W220 S55],,
AMG put the Engine from E55(which is 113.980) in W202 C55, but they change the Engine code # to 113.983....!!
