Transmission Woes

Transmission Woes
So I had a weird development this week--my transmission started to become very touchy when I was driving and never really seemed to downshift when I was at cruising speed. This was followed by an idle around 1K RPM, followed by RPMs spiking to approximately 2.5K when the car was started, only to drop once the car was put into drive or reverse. Downshifts have also been clunky between 15-30 mph. I haven't brought it into my shop yet, but wanted to see if I can 'arm chair' it before doing so. Anyone have any thoughts?

check the fluid level
when was the last time it was serviced?
Check the electrical connector on the transmission when fluid gets in it the trans can start acting weird.
Also check if fluid has gotten in the TCU

If the transmission has been serviced recently I would check the connector and the TCU for fluid. If you don't see anything obvious in those places it might be time to take it to an indy or the dealer to check for transmission codes.
Do the symptoms you described only happen when the engine is cold?
Lots of good transmission info here

Spillled little coffee...now shifter is acting up. Help
2000 E55
it was dark and I bumped into coffee mug. Spilled some coffee...and now shifter is acting up.
is there any way to open cover and look at shifter unit?
It will only go into P if I turn engine off. plus I think car is not shifting into higher gears either. From P it will come down to R and N and D.
I am sure this has happened to others due to the position of the cup holder. Any help would be very appreciated. thanks flks

Try to diagnose the car first, if shifter module code appears, clear it, if it comes again, then have to replace it,,
after that follow "illest" link, it will helps alooooooooot..

Fixed....but
Ok folks, back a few weeks ago I reported a coffee spill onto the shifter and car went into "limp" mode. My MB mechanic removed the module and boards and cleaned up the contacts with solvent, and car drove normal after that for 3 weeks.
Today I am merging into a highway on a ON ramp slightly uphill and I gently punch the throttle pedal half way down to gain speed, but the car boggled down... lost power for a sec or two, and I let off the throttle and car continued to move but with a "check engine" light lid up in the panel. Drove about 15 miles at 70 mph no problem. Upon hitting traffic again, I noticed that if I am at a traffic light and light turns green to me, I can press on the throttle slightly and car moves fine but with a slow acceleration. If I depress throttle a little further and deeper, car hesitates....let it off...car maintains slow acceleration and moves ok. So, I think this has something to do with a Throttle position sensor....? push it down and hard forcing a downshift causes problems....steady on the throttle and all is "fine". what you fellows think this could be? thanks folks.
