Starting Problem
I think this may be related to a cam- or crankshaft position sensor, but it's not as straightforward as most of the descriptions form my search of the forums. About half of the time the car has been started in the last week, the engine continues to turn without firing, and takes 2-3 attempts to get it running. When it does start, it starts immediately, but a few times it has started on the first try and then immediately dies. No difference between hot or cold starts, and the weather has been 50-70F. Once it starts I don't notice any issues, and there are no OBDII codes stored, no CEL lit.
It seems like the crank position sensor is a common failure on the series and could cause this, but it doesn't quite match up to what others have described when their sensor has failed. Any ideas or suggestions to try before I start replacing things?

on the 211 forum and from some other sources, but some people seem to still be tracking down the problem with no luck.

Not yet; it's currently #2 on my list of suspects. I don't know if this is the original filter or not. I negotiated a significant discount because the service records were missing.

Thanks, I'll add that relay to the list. The problem has gone absent for a couple of days now, but I doubt I'll be so lucky that it won't return at some point. At least for now I can focus on the C-Class' EIS, front SAM and AC high pressure switch that have all gone bad at the same time.
