Hood will not open
hello,
I have a 1999 E55.
I pulled the hood release lever in the car to pop out the black tab so I can open the hood and nothing happened. I put quite a bit of pressure on the lever in the car and nothing happened. I do not want to pull hard and break it.
I looked at the hood and I cannot see anything wrong but I have never had this happen before.
has this happened to anyone before.
Is it possible to get the hood open without pulling the hood release in the car.
Help would be much appreciated
thank you.

The attached is not mine; I found it on one of the forums so the credit needs to go to the unknown individual who posted it originally.
First make sure the lever is not broken.

Be sure to read the attachment also. I saved it years ago "just in case".

Hood will not open
I am curious. Does the latch in the car which pops out the black tab out also release the latches under the hood or does pulling the back tab do it.
Thank you

the lever in the car pulls a cable, which pulls on the tabs on the latches under the hood to release it. First before going through a major pain like this, have someone lightly pull up on the edges of the front of the hood or the grill area, just don't pull up too rough as to break anything. While they are pulling up, pull the interior hood release handle and see if the hood comes up that way. I have seen many of the pop-up springs under the hood get damaged or go missing and people don't want to spend the $15 or so to replace them and then have this issue.

Hood wont open
Thank you for the info Racin Fool
What is confusing me is what does the black tab that pops out when I pull the lever in the car do. That tab is not popping out at all now. I thought that pulling on the black tab is what released the latchs on the hood?
