2000 e55 limp mode
I am having issue with car going into a limp mode when accelerating if I drive softly it will run fine but as soon as i go fast or manual shift it dropes out into a limp mode. I need to shut car down and restart to fix the issue. If i disconect the battery it runs great for around 60 miles then same issue. changed lots of parts and cleared codes but still have problem. I did see somewhere that a clogged cat may cause the issue. Any sudgestions will help

What is/are the code(s) currently stored?
With what little info you provided it could be an rpm sensor on the transmission conductor plate but that is pure conjecture at this point.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's the Throttle Position Sensor. The same thing happened to me, the car would drive fine however would go into limp mode when I floored it past kickdown. Turning the car off and on again seemed to temporarily fix it. Anyway, I replaced the TPS and all's well.

You can put it on a diagnostic system to be pointed in less than five minutes to the failure or just throw money and parts at it until you eventually locate the problem....

Christoh and Mr. Birdwell both have valid points. I had the same thing going on and a TPS replacement fixed it. A scanner even basic helps, though the OBD codes for my TPS issue logged but never threw a CEL.
