Should I buy a Canadian E55 here in the states?

There is a 2001 E55 210 at a local dealer with 29k miles.

It was a Canadian car. Would the car be worth less than a US car originally?

What did they have to do to the car to make it US legal?

What about the warranty?

They say the warranty is covered in the US.

The car drives fine. No paint work. 29k miles. 2001 with xenon’s and rear sun shade + CD changer.

What do YOU think is a good price for this Canadian car? It shows MPH on the gauges.

Since it's a dealer car, a good price would be low 40's but it's likely to sticker in the high 40's.
Mine was from Mexico and that hasn't caused any service related issues.

How much warranty is left? That should have a bearing on the cost.

Have you checked ebay?

Canadian cars have a few more features standard then the US cars such as the sun roof.. These do not matter to you now as it is already built..

The only difference is the dash is in KM.. Which may look cool going up to 300 or whatever it does (mine is 260 but an E500).

Also, it has daytimne running lights which is safe and great..

This car has MPH on the dash.

It looks like they swapped out the KM for MPH.

Is this a Grey market car or not? I can get it for around $38,000.

Is this a deal with only 29k miles or not?

Mercedes does not have to honor the warranty and may not. I have a Canadian E55 and it has been a pain the the **** to get anything done. If the local dealership does not want to do the work, Mercedes USA will not make them and, even if the dealeership wants to do the work, Mercedes US may not reimburse the local dealership for the repairs. Call Mercedes USA and ask them how they treat Canadian imported cars.

My catalytic converters went out on my E55 and the zone manager refused to let the dealership do the work under warranty. Well, Ok, I'll take it up with Mercedes USA. Nope, didn't work.....initially. They refused to do the work and said that they did not have to do the work since it was an imported car from Canada.

Well, to make a very long story short, I ended up getting the US EPA involved. The EPA told me to get a letter from Mercedes USA stating why they were refusing to replace the cats. They also told me that they could force Mercedes to supply a list of all the catalytic converters that they had ever replaced. If there were many that had failed, the US EPA could force a recall of all the cars equipped with these cats. After I told Mercedes US what the EPA said, they really changed their tone! They never sent the letter and around three weeks later they had approved the work. Seems that they do have to cover the emissions part of the vehicle since it is exactly the same as the US cars' emission controls and comes under US EPA guidelines regardless of point of importation.

The point, you may be able to get a better deal on the Canadian E55 but the hassel is not worth the savings. You may or may not have problems but I wouldn't buy a Canadian imported E55 again.

Thats funny cause the warranty states that is a North American warranty. Also, I have known a person who had their car fixed when in the US and this was CDN benz..

It seems the dealer is mad that they bought it from Canada.. In the end they fixed it didn't they..? Why? Because they had to..

Mercedes USA told me, "All warranties are null and void once the car is exported from the cars point of origin." I know for a fact that they don't always follow that credo but, if the repairs are significant enough, don't be surprised if they fight you on the big repairs. The dealership that did finially replace the cats said they would have been almost $5,000 had Mercedes USA not been forced to do the repairs. There is no way in hell that I'd pay that much for cats. I guess they were made from the typical unobtanium that Mercedes uses in their manufacturing process.

I think the US owners manual states Mercedes USA and the Canadian says Mercedes North America. I would walk out to my car and look but it's in the shop getting some damage repaired from a hurricane. Would someone with a US Mercedes check their owners manual?
