Not exactly true. European M3 are equipped with Launch control and have a counter, recording the number of LC attempts. Every 12 (I think) attempts at LC requires a mandatory visit to the BMW center, otherwise it voids the warranty. US equipped cars do NOT have LC

Please read.....

Gustav wrote and I quote..
.............
"It is fair to say it is even to Gallardo, it depends whoever gets the jump. But there is a fair chanse that above 240 km/h the M5 will pass the Galalrdo and esp Viper. The M5 was clearly faster over 180 km/h than the Viper.

M5 beast the E55 AMG with 4 people in the M5 "
.................

He did NOT say it beat the Gallardo with 4 persons, so I guess you missunderstood him and since you belived his post until you thought he claimed that the M5 beat the Lambo and Viper with 4 persones in it I guess you belive the rest.

A honest mistake

Fine then we can agree ..

Thats Ok.

Regarding some of the numbers achieved on that day, me to have a feeling they are a bit optimistic.
But that does not change the outcome of all the different real life comparrisons......

And did you BTW se the fist little video presented where they drove the new M5 vs the old E39 M5, the difference is so huge its funny. It was taken in the dark and the quality is not to much but you clearly see the difference.....

Then I can humbly say I made a mistake. I swear I thought I read that but I guess it was someone else's comment.

Like I said, all those comparisons are cool and all, but I repeat again, when I get my M5 in Sep or Oct (hopefully they will stick with this date) I'll have some comparisons I can post against E55...and no, I don't really give a ***** that "the E55 has been out for several years, so the M5 should be faster, blah blah blah". If the M5 is faster, then that's that and we move on til something better comes along. After the M5, my guess is I'll probably own it for less than 8 month (pretty common with me, I'm too undecisive), but I'll be truly honest with you, I FREAKIN HATE (Hate being understatement) THE INTERIOR. The exterior grew on me and quite frankly I think it's HOT! but the inside, man the 5er and 7er is just pure YUK to me. My opinion of course. But I'll hopefully enjoy the M5 before my taste in interior gets the "best" of me. Oh, I drive a CL55 now and I'll be the first to say this...this car is numb, souless, and fairly boring except for when blowing the doors off every BMW :p
I already plan on going with 20inch HRE or ACS and maybe even a body kit if they make it. I always thought the front could be a bit boxier.

Having read the posts on this thread, I can conclude that this forum is flooded with little immature kids, posing as E55 owners (Yeah, maybe in your Gran Turismo 4 garage )
I have been a longtime member of m5board. I have never felt Gustav has interfered with people's personal opinions, as long as there was no personal insult directed at anyone. And, he is not exclusively biased towards BMWs, in fair comparisons to other cars. He congratulated me on my purchase of the SL 55 and said it is a beautiful car. He has, on numerous occasions, been the first to post on new automobile offerings, many new AMG models . He was also the person that made member Lonman's videos of his SL 55 against an E39 M5 available on his site. He does not EDIT the content on his site, he justs wants to create a utopia.

Hey Peter B.
feel free to research my posts on the M5board. You would be happy to know I have faithfully defended the SL 55 a few times this past week alone

BTW,

The E60 M5 is MUCH faster than the E55 on the high speed ring in Gran Turismo 4

they don't have the european LC. Due to US warranty laws, BMWNA will have to be responsible for all issues caused by LC if it is offered. BMW can't pull BMWAG that would void warranty after x times of use.

Therefore, US M3 does not have LC the way it was designed. Simple as that.

I stand corrected. I thought the warranty on the clutch is voided and has to be replaced out of pocket by the owners.

So you are saying that clutch replacement is covered? that is a good deal.

Perhaps you have difficulty undestandidng, friend? My post said that you will not get one argument FROM ME. I did not say that EVERYONE on this board or planet has to agree or disagree with whatever is posted. Whats wrong with you?

At this point because of clowns like you with their gazillllions of bogus statements it makes it extreemly difficult to agree to anything now.
As a result of this crap, I think , this whole mess will only be resolved when the production cars hit hte road and its proven here and there that M5 can/can't do what is attributed to it by people like you.
If you can't read and undertand my post about ME agreeing/disagreeing and present it as EVERYONE else, do not expect understanding let alone agreeing to your BS.
If you think you are smart than at this point it should be clear to you that
M5/E55 dispute will NOT be resolved in this or any other forum.
It will be done on the road and surly if M5 with 4 people beats E55 according to gustaff---there will be no chance for E55 to ever beat M5 so once cars get on the road it should be pretty clear right away .
Untill than, its all one big pile of bull crapppppppppp.

Personally I find it puzling that gustaff and "100 witnesses" pop up here yet no SL55 owner or E55 owners form the so called "test's" ever show up. Where do they all vanish?

I am confused. Why do I always use LC on my 2002 SMG M3, if it is not present? OK, it launches at 1,800 RPM and not 3,500+, like the European cars, but it is still very effective.

Stock smg cars are running 13.0. Modded U.S. SMG cars are running 12sec. at 118mph 1/4mile times. Im not sure a 3,500 RPM launch would make our cars that much better.

Yes they do! What I am referring to is the software on it. The US LC is a "detuned" version of the european models. The LC is set at low rpm in the US (I think 2000 rpm), while the euro M3s can launch the car at 3000-4000 rpm. 3000 is the optimal rpm to launch an M3. This has been a sore point with US owners, but it also is much safer! Can't really do as much damage with 2000 rpm

different softwares. The true, original design of SMGII is present on the Euro. M3, launching the car at a pre-emgaged rpm of 3500-4000. The US version of LC is detuned to launch at 1800-2000 rpm. This is done due to warranty reasons, and minimizing clutch abuse issues. The optimal launch rpm for an E46 M3 is closer to 3000 rpm.

Krispy Kreme,

The issue of clutch replacement is a not CLEARLY defined. I remember a few years ago, many people complained and were upset that the clutch on their E39 M5 was not replaced under warranty. I had my clutch replaced on my E39 M5 under warranty and so have a number of other folks I know. It depends on the Service Center and what kind of rapport you have with the Service Dept.

That is what I will wait for, Erik ----If that owner of production M5 will say in a week that he had run in with E55 and he won , I will compleetly believe him and htere will be no post from me disputing him. But what you have, Erik is "theory", nothing else
Perheps if you read yourself everything and made BMW guys believe it before coming with this here all this crap and you would not be here at all.

Jean-Paul

Well one owner of a production M5 has already stated that he beat an SL 55 on a rolling start, yet no one here believed him. Ironic your post then, don't you think?
You claimed all he had was theory, yet an ACTUAL PRODUCTION CAR from an ACTUAL owner beat an SL 55, which can't be too far off from E55 performance can it? So it's not a head-to-head comparison, the fact remains. Maybe if you were more mature your logic and reading might improve too.

I have to agree with you on the M5 interior. I drive a 545 now, and was hoping I would 'warm up' to the interior. It isn't happening. The M5 interior is virtually identical, except the wood trim options look like somebody was on drugs. I sat in both cars at the Detroit Auto Show, and the aluminum looks cheap, and the Walnut looks like varnished pine. I just don't understand it...

I do not believe the M5, with 500 lbs. of extra weight on board can beat the E55, in any acceleration test, even with the slightest margin.

I think Gustav got carried away, unless we're talking about the M5 beating the E55 due to different top speed delimiter.

3500 RPM's would make a world of difference, as long as you can get traction. Not to be picky but, I only know of two SMG cars (stock) that ran 13.0's. I had an M3 and ran the **** out of it as much as I could. I was on the M3 forums and I think there's more SMG's running mid 13's rather than 13.0's. I only know of a couple of cars that reported running 13.0's stock. That's for another forum though. For what it's worth I still love the M3.

I'd like to see a video of that 12.0 second run.
