2005 C55 AMG
Pictures of my broken AMG

Here's some pics. A little while ago I said that someone hit my 2005 C55 only five days after I got it... Well here's are some pictures I took last week. Hopefully, it will be repaired soon. Basically everthing infront of the engine is missing and the driver side of the frame, by the engine is going to have to be replaced.

NOOOOO!!! Oh the HUMANITY!!!

Sorry to hear that. Looks as bad as when my '99 SL 600 went head to head with an Escalade. He made a left turn on a red arrow. At least I took his car w/me, y'know?

What happened? How'd the accident go down?

Ride and handling characteristics will probably never be the same. I'd get a new one after all is done. So sorry to hear.

If it's a good shop, I wouldnt worry too much. I wrecked my first car, a 300E, and when the shop finished with it, it was as good as new. However, i've been in other friend's cars that were never the same after their accident.

Doesn't matter if you think it was as good as new, it isn't. It's simply not possible. It may ride and drive fine, but it's a fixed wreck. Run, don't walk away.

i honestly dont know where you get these ideas that you can jsut say i dont want it back. thats fine just dont have a car PeteB. Last I checked the only way to get a car replaced if you dont want it back is to sell it and take a big hit.

But hey good luck. I have had many cars hit and well lets see the running count for # of cars replaced? well ... errr .... zero. And we are talking cars with 40-50k in damage too! All ran fine and were "good as new".

But that C55 looks to be in good hands so no reason to fear anything. She will be back on the road asap -- with a clean car fax report so dont worry. It was not totaled so no mark on title at all of any kind.

Well, unless it's his fault you almost certainly can get the other guy's insurance to bite on a 5 day old car, especially one as expensive and rare as a C55. Even if it is his fault, some companies will just take it off your hands being that new, depending on the damage/value ratio. And if there's still no way to get someone else to buy it now, have someone else buy it after it's fixed. And major damage WILL show on car fax.

AMG engines aren't cheap, but there's no way that accident is even close to the value the insurance company would require to total a brand new C55. If it wasn't your fault, I'd start complaining about all that soft tissue damage now... you might be able to get them to settle and buy you a new car.

The whole front clip including suspension is off the car. I'd say a minimum of 20K in damage, so it's easily possible. Regardless, I'd do my best to make it someone else's problem and get another rather than fix it (or even after). I tried that (fixing it) with a Land Cruiser years past and I wish I had had forced the issue of replacement over and over and......................... I feel the pain, trust me. I can almost guarantee it's better to lose the car one way or another. Unless it's a lease and it's gone anyway in a year or 2.

i am sorry bout the car, but its pretty impossible for icbc(vancouver insurance company) to pay for a new car especially c55 being so expensive, i dealt with them for my crashed 330 before, damage was bout 25-30k cdn, they never intent to give a new car, the insurance company here is hard to talk, especially with high-end cars, they rather repair then replace, in the way they save money,,

Unfortunately, insurance does not work that way. You are pretty much at the mercy of the adjuster to make the decision if the car is totaled or not regardless who is at fault in the accident. By the look of the damage in the picture, there is no way the insurance is going to total this particular car. Just make sure you have a reputable shop fix it with OEM replacement part and move on.

major damage = total or repaired salvage. that car is not a salvage by any strech of the imagination. i have had a 400SE, C280, SL500, 300E ( hit @ 52 mph when 1 year old in 1986) get damaged fairly severly and none of these cars were declared toataled and none had a mark on their title.

That C55 is just fine. There is no damage very far back and the passenger side of the car is 100% fine. That frame rail is there to be replaced in a wreck. Its there to absorb impact and then be replaced. I mean look at the hood its not even folded in much at all. The car is taken apart to be fixed and well it looks worse than it really is I think. Car is 100% fine.

Very often you dont have a choice but to get the car fixed. The car is new and the value is so high that it would need nearly 40k in damage to be considered totaled. That car does not have 40k in damage. I see it as 12-17k in damage.

doesn't insurance offer coverage that will replace the car if the car is very new (in this case 5 days).

You can always claim diminishing value.

I disagree. If the car is fixed properly, it will be good as new.
