20" HRE's on E55!
Some NEW photos of the BEAST with 20's!!!!!!
Rear Wheels: HRE542R - 20x10: 275/30/20 ContactSport2 tires
Front Wheels: HRE542R - 20x9: 245/30/20 ContactSport2 tires
Absolutely no modifications. Car is totally stock (not lowered).
No rubbing whatsoever; ride is suprisingly forgiving, better than I expected.
Handling is noticeably better, and acceleration seems unchanged.

Damn those wheels are freakin' sick. Good choice man, now you should take it to Steve when he's in Orange County this May to lower it.

so...just to reiterate
there is no rubbing front or rear..and there are no clearance issues with any protuding suspension or fender bolts...?
Just need to be clear b/c these were two possible issues that were communicated to me with your exact wheel/tire size choices on an E55. I don't want to run into any issues.
Looks great by the way. I will be a proud new HRE papa soon as well.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
p.s. boy those tires could stand to be a few mm wider just to protect those rims from nasty curbs...especially in the rear...I wonder if a 285/20/20 would work as well?

Very nice. If you're using a taller tire like that, is there a way to reprogram things so that the speedo is accurate and the odo doesn't pile up a false number of miles on the car? And I guess there is no way to deal with the reduction in overall gear ratio a taller tire causes short of changing out the rear end. It would be interesting to see what the difference is in the 1/4 with stock tires and a 1" taller one like this, if there is any.

Correct, there is no rubbing front or rear..and there are no clearance issues whatsoever with suspension or fender bolts.
As far as 285's in place of the 275's, the recommended size was 275. I believe 285 might have issues with either rubbing or offset issues causing the wheel to stick outside of the fender.
Below is the breakdown between stock and modified wheel sizes. The larger tire actually has fewer revolutions per mile than stock, so if anything, miles accumlated would be less:
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
265/35-18 3.7in 12.7in 25.3in 79.5in 797 0.0%
275/30-20 3.2in 13.2in 26.5in 83.2in 761 4.7%

Rocket, that's some good info. I'd love to know how much the difference in effective gearing affects timed acceleration runs. Maybe someone who has run 20's at the track will chime in. My guess is probably not a lot.
