My E55 in an accident...

Well, my worst nightmare happened to me on Friday. I was headed home from my girlfriends place around 11:15pm on Friday night. The county had a light out (ie. no flashing yellow or red, just blank). I approached it and came to a complete stop at the light, just as you're suppose to when a light is out. Just as I was about to hit the gas and continue home, I hear breaking and screeching tires...and then BAM! The speed limit is 60mph at this intersection, he must have been doing at least 50mph after the breaking, if not more

My car lurches forward into the center turn lane (as I was holding on the brakes) and comes to a stop. I am very rattled at this point (obviously) and sit in my car for a second. My four way flashers are on and the Teleaid is calling the police. I guy and girl in a big 16-wheeler saw the entire thing and come over to see if I'm alright. I say I'm shaken and my neck hurts but I think I'm cool.

I look over to the guy who hit me and he was whining and holding is chest (he had no airbags in his car). He didn't say one word to me and I began to think he was drunk. The medics and cops show and take him away in a strecher.

I finally get out of the drivers seat and take a look at my car. For those of who truely love your E55, you may start crying (pics below).

I ended up going to the ER and getting home at 4am. I am still very soar in my neck and also have slight headaches now and then. I had my HRE's off the car at the time, so they're safe. I am hoping they just total the car as I can't imagine the value of it after this has happened...

So, the guy was issued a ticket for DWI and also had NO INSURANCE!!! He previously got a ticket for no insurance, so this won't be his first. Thank God I have uninsured motorist for my car or else I'd be in trouble...

As you can send, a crease has been made along the body. This door (passenger rear) doesn't close properly either.

My drivers seat is also broken...

wow.. glad you werent hurt any worse. i have a question for you on TELEAID.. how quickly did they respond.. and were they able to pinpoint your location? It sounds great in theory.. just wondering how it really works in an emergency such as yours when you know you need help but you dont know exactly what your location is. Again.. glad you werent hurt any worse than you were.

Did you tilt the driver's seat to that position? Glad to see even at 50mph, there is no intrusion on the passenger compartment. Even the rear glass is intact. Sorry for your loss and aches and pains. As I'm sure you're aware, it could always be worse.

Oops, sorry, I just read the last line about the driver's seat. Is it really loose?

diminshed value

Some insurance companies will pay for reduced value due to an accident...this would compansate you for loss of value because your car has been in damaged.

Glad that you were not injured badly

I have only owned the E55 since November of 2004. So, I really haven't enjoyed it to the fullest yet. I am hoping the insurance company will just total this so I can look for a new one. Even if they fix this thing back to 100%, the fact that it was in the large of an accident will affect the value of the car by a large amount.

It's going to be hard finding something with all those options but if I take my time I can. My car only has 13k miles on it and it's a 2003, so that might be hard to replace. I'll keep you all posted on the car and the dip***** who hit me.

Depending on the state. Read the fine print in your policy carefully. There's tons of info on the net regarding diminished value. California, for example, has no recourse. Best thing you can do is get in good with your claim adjuster to have it deemed a total loss, although it can also be based on the total of damages versus how that translates to the value of the vehicle. I think a rear muffler on a W211 E55 is $50,000

Yeah, that would be the second option that I can see. Either the car is a total loss or I get recompinsated from the insurance because of diminished value. IMO, it's about $10k difference between a salvage E55 and clean E55.

You and the car took quite a hit. You’ll get better soon, but I hope the car is terminal.

Actually most insurance companies that I know of (at least in jersey) have specific , yet sometimes vague, clauses in our agreements that basically say they will not pay for the reduced value of the car. Ive looked at both Atlantic mutual and geico and have seen that they won't pay it. They will only pay whatever is needed to get the car back to the condition it was in before.

MBAMGPWR, so sorry to hear about what happened to you. It sounds like that unfortunately you've suffered some injuries. I would definately get yourself a good lawyer and don't sign anything...absolutely anything without your lawyer looking at it first. But more importantly it is a good thing that you were not injured further...don't worry dude, you'll be back riping it up in another AMG soon enough.

I know your pain I had my 2005 C55 for five days until someone hit it and completely took the front end off. It's been in the shop for over a month already, another few weeks to go for me. Hang in there dude, concentrate on getting well.

Sorry man. Hope you and the car feel better. That is one of my top 5 driving pet peeves: MAYBE 10% of drivers stop at an outed traffic light and treat it like a 4 way stop sign. Hate it!

sorry to hear this dude!!! i actually have my cars on a stated basis by me at the beginning of every year through state farm. when i mod my car i add that to the value and if im totaled i get the whole nut back. fyi, if they do total it ask how much you can buy it back for. i did this on a car a ways back. totaled value was 5k, bought it back for 250. put in a new motor and trans for 1.5k and good as new. still have it too. my first hot rod, a 1985 toyota celica gts conv. glad to hear youre good my friend.

MBAMGPWR,

That really sucks. I hope you revcover quiclky from your injuries. As for the E55, I think it held up really well under the circumstances. That was one major hit.

Feel better.

Swear this is true story....

My brother was involved in an accident on the highway....unfortunately it was his fault....one of the witnesses (who was totally uninjured...just saw the thing) SUED my brother claiming .....you ready......witnessing the accident caused him so much trauma...he couldn't get it up anymore. Of course it was eventually dropped.....just unreal that a lawyer would even try to take that to court.

No offense to you personal injury lawyers....but THAT is one of the main problems with our country today.

Watch the idiot that hit you turn around and SUE YOU.

Wow, what happened is horrible. I'm glad you were able to walk away. As for the guy, sue him for every last penny hes worth or get a lien on his future pay. Make him remember what he did for the rest of his life.
