E55K: Top Speed only 137 MPH!
Hey guys,
I am considering buying a friends 2003 E55 and did some acceleration runs. I tried to take it to the 155 limited top speed, but kept running into a limiter at approximately 137. I tried three times with the same results. I was in sport mode with traction control off.
Were there cars with incorrect limiters installed in 2003? How do I have this repaired by the dealer? Thanks.

Heck with the dealer.....speedtuningusa.com . 349$ and the car will run til you go airborne. Oliver takes off the speed limiter completely.
If you got the kahunas, you should be able to take er up to around 185...but like I said, hit a large dip in the road and buckle those seatbelts passengers for flight e55.

He originally had 275/30/19 on the rear, but due to limited availability he we went with the slightly taller tire. Is this enough to throw off the computer and limiter setting? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.

AMG cars are suposed to be limited to 250Kph but as was asked earlier, what tires came stock on that car? Could it be that they were not rated for such high speeds?

Now, assuming that there is anything right about what I am saying, is it possible that you were actually travelling 155 mph, but the speedometer was reading your wheel rotation rate based on stock tire sizes and only showing 137 mph on the speedo??
Does any of this make sense? Or was it the wine at dinner?

I would think that means that if you are using the frequency of wheel rotations to measure speed, that measurement will probably underestimate your true speed. For example, if 50 turns of the wheel in a second is the equivalent of 100 mph on stock wheel sizes (purely made up), it may actually be 110 mph on larger wheels and taller tires because the circumference is larger.

Somewhat. The actual difference between the rear stock tire (265/35/18) and his (275/35/19) is 5%. So, if the speedo says 137, he is actually going 143.85 mph. Still quite a difference from 155.
Nevertheless, 135 is the standard limiting speed for non-AMGs I believe. He could have gotten to 137 on a downgrade though.
Most likely the limiter is set incorrectly.
