Our Beasts Shine On the Open Road
Have not had the chance to take to many road trips with the car that are more then 2 hours at high speeds. Drove from MD to Hershey,PA over the weekend and I have to say that this car drives like a dream on the open road at speed.
Did not have traffic so I was able to cruise at 85-90 all the way to Hershey and I was amazed. Had the wife (5 months pregnant) and kid in the back so my driving was not aggressive until I had the perfect flat road on 15N with no cars in sight and I looked at my wife and she says go ahead once and get it out of your system.
I punched it at 85mph and before I knew it we had hit 140mph and climbing then I shut her down. Even after almost 2 years of ownership I still keep loving my family sedan.

Let be honest now. Mercedes and BMW's love to be driven on long trips. I have noticed how much smoother and more refined the ride is than other companies from Germany or Japan. I love taking my E350 or E55 on trips with the family but the Honda gets more of that these days with the kids and all.

thats really smart...put your pregnant wife and children at risk because you feel the need for speed.
Keep your speeding to alone time in the car, if you kill somebody have it be yourself.

Easy guys! Going 140 is a modded K2 car is like taking candy from a baby. It was a straight 2 lane road no cars and V1/K40 jammers on alert.
Remember I had the wife give me the approval :v
I always save my highspeed driving for the track. Use to take my modded 911 TT up to Summit Point all the time.
If I was alone, I would of kept the hammer pressed and buried the speedo at 185 with ease

Agreed! Rule of thumb is you should always check your car before a road trip just as you would before going on the track.

Hey Derek...never got to ask.
You ever, on that longggg stretch on highway headed up North....flip the nitrous switch once just for fun??
Also, you ever figure out the 2nd to 3rd hesitation?
Sorry to hijack....

Perhaps if you spent that time judging yourself and making change you wouldn't have as much cause to be as bitter as you are.

Hesitation never happened again. Could have been a side effect of no nitrous purge, who knows.

I am sure with either Kleemann K2 or K3 you can go over the magical 200mph but they limit the ECU to 187. Running above 200mph starts making your engine do crazy things if kept at speed for a long period. Your brain would also need to looked at
Having said that, I have been thinking about driven down to NC to that old 1 mile airstrip and hammering it for the mile. I am sure we would hit the speed limiter way before the mile was up based on my conversations with Cory
With 1/4 traps in the mid 120's, the car can do it but not recommended.

It was still pulling when I stopped although it was not pulling hard. It would have definitely kept going. I had it to 193 on the dyno and my tuner had it to 192-193 on I-10.
As for the NC airstrip, you would only get one run. Their insurance requires a 4 point rollcage if you run faster than 125 (HELLO 1/4 mile trap speed). They will give you credit for a 4 point with the MB engineering but you then need a 6 point cage after 150. It's 1.9 miles long and you get 1 mile to get up to speed and .9 to power down. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with their tech guy lobbying for all I was worth but only got the 4 point deal out of him. It simply comes down to their insurance. Break the rules once and you get kicked out.
He mentioned a track in Texas that is more liberal. Never thought the words "more liberal" would sound good to me but they do. Haven't checked it out yet.
What I want is a radar speed display (the ones that cops put out sometime) on the side of a highway. I then want to drive but and have someone on the side of the road snap a picture of the 200+mph speed with a black blur in the background.

*edit* and it's not preaching...I just think it's dumb to put his kids and wife's life at risk to make a high speed pass. I drive fast all the time...but I don't go making 140mph passes with my mom/friend/brother/girlfriend/etc. in the passenger seat. If a tire blows, I don't want to be responsible for the death of anyone more than just myself.

dgussin1,
Whether he's at 140, or at 80, if the tire goes it's not going to be a pretty sight. Hell, driving a car is downright dangerous to begin with when there is public transport, and the bicycle. I don't think you are being realistic by criticizing him for doing 140mph. Losing a tire at almost any speed above 50 could end in tragedy... just getting in the car could end in tragedy.
04E55, don't sweat it. We drive 500hp cars because we want to enjoy them on the street, obviously MB thinks the car is good to at least 155mph, but I will agree with them much above that is pushing your luck - not because of a tire blowing, but just because how anything is difficult to react to in the given amount of time at that speed. I'm happy having hit off my limiter a number of times.
