Badged vs non badged intimidation factor?

So, my wife is driving a stock silver E55 as a loaner (see new M-Class tranny) and I'm noticing MANY people shying away from it.
That's not all too odd in itself, except that my own E55 is debadged and I get people coaxing ME into a race all the time. I don't even have to find anyone.

Is it the V8Kompressor badge on the side? Or the AMG on the rear?
I dunno, but I love that I get tested so much!

lucky

it's nice that you get an e55 as a loaner. up here in Bakersfield I'm lucky if I even get a loaner. I consider myself lucky if I get the one c-class sport in the loaner fleet.

I have the same experience.. People pull up along side me and dont see the V8 Kompressor badges and must assume its an E500... that is... until the hammer gets dropped on them.

I love the inconspicuous look.. They never know what hit them..

The license gives it away

My wagon is debadged, but the license plate sort of gives it away. I suppose if you can see the four pipes, you know there is trouble.

I must admit...I have just become addicted to Benz over the last 2 years...before that, I would have laughed at you if you told me a Benz could run 12 flat all day long.

I think car buffs know what Kompressor means, but I think most people are lost on AMG power. Think most Americans have been brainwashed that if it isn't a Ferrari or Lambo, it could never match the power of the big 3 makers.

I have had person after person laugh as I pull up with the header rumble....then jaw hits their lap as she just LEAPS off the line at the light.

My favorite out here in bumpkin land is trucks. They think they are all bad a$$ cause they have stout gearing and little more peppy motors......unfortunatley, they suffer the same fate. This one "mayberry" type acutally asked for it.....older Ford pickup with the monster tires and everything.....HUGE tack on the dash etc.... He's revving and revving at the light blah blah blah.... I just gave it to him full out.....brake launch and works. Car hooked and just blasted....he was stunned. Turned off at next red light.

Sorry to start blabbin....just I just love this friggin car.

My sentiments exactly! I have been driving mostly Porsches and Ferraris these past few years.. This is my first Benz and I am thoroughly impressed with it.. Complete comfort and power to boot.. I've shocked the heck out of a few 996TT guys on the highway and my car is STOCK.. I cant wait to meet up when I'm sporting 600hp and 650lb/ft torque..

My only complaint is the sloppy feel of the steering.. I wish it wasnt so lose at high speed and I wish it didn't roll as much on cornering.

IIIIIIIII'm a getting to it. You gotta understand, spending 10K to have your car come out less than just about every other guy with mods is not the most exciting endeavour.

4300ft should slice bout 10% or 50hp what you guys are running. I guess I gotta go and take my punishment some day. I'll start making some calls.

I think you'll do better than you think you will. If you look at your dyno from Kleemann, and if you factor out 21% drivetrain loss, you're putting down 462hp. This is also at 6000+ ft elevation!

Go do it tomorrow

A Dynojet will make corrections for the altitude, weather, ETC... The higher altitude will lead to a greater correction factor.

They actually have E55 loaners? If they had E55's at my stealership for loaners I would have my cars serviced there more often. I'll give an excuse like, "my chair is making weird noises, give me that E55 loaner!"

The General sales Manager was nice enough to give my wife his personal demo.
