E-mail response from AMG re: 030 for E55

Here is the reply I got from Rob regarding the 030 package for the E55. I had written to him voicing my disappointment that this package would not be available for the E55. What would be great is if they could make a package for existing cars. Maybe our group here is a much smaller sample of E55 owners who are not interested in any of this stuff? You would think MB would rather have our money instead of Kleemann, Renntech, or Evo.

Dear Chris,

Thank you for taking the time to write to me about a Performance Package
for the E55 AMG model.

I apologize that your colleague was informed about "lack of demand" being
the reason for not offering this package on the MY2006 E55 AMG sedan.
The reason for not offering this package is actually technical where the 19
inch wheels, brakes and therefore top speed delimitation could not be
added to this Series 211 vehicle due to technical reasons.

As you know, the other AMGs receive major modifications (such as suspension
and body) on the CLS55 AMG to enable delimitation to 300 km/h / 186 mph.
These are absolutely required for higher speed operation and affect the
vehicle safety. Modifications limited to aftermarket "chip tuning" or
bolt-on aero kits or oversized wheels are not recommended for this reason.

We have taken into consideration the feedback we heard at the AMG Challenge
and we are working on making these features a reality as soon as feasible.

We believe that the owners of the E55 AMG are some of the strongest
enthusiasts for the AMG brand and we need to offer these features.

Sincerely,

Robert F. Allan

Sounds like a marketing BS maybe not...

What a lot of " PR mumbo jumbo" - don't call us, we'll call you , when we have figured out what you really want... don't spend your money with "the tuners"
in the meantime, you hear?

Performance package on E55 AMG

"The reason for not offering this package is actually technical where the 19

This is odd because the AMG Manufaktur offers exactly those components to customers in Europe and they are the same ones or at least similar to those that are in the SL55 or CLS 55 Performance Package. Here is an offer AMG made to an amg-forum member that Walter.fr pointed out at the beginning of the year:

AMG Manufaktur Affalterbach, offered one of our members at AMG Owners Club the following for his E55AMG/S211:

Brakes, (discs 380/36mm) and 8 pot caliper
including mounting - PRICE 3.880,-- €
(remark from AMG ! - ONLY with 19" wheels possible)

Wheels; AMG Styling IV, including tyres
8,5x19 ET25 & 245/35/ZR19
10x19 ET28 & 275/30/ZR19
including mounting - PRICE 7.155,-- €

so complete price is about 11.000,-- € PLUS 16% VAT

As written above, this is an offer from AMG Affalterbach

'03 G500, '13 G63, '17 GLS63,
If that was the case, why does AMG make aftermarket 19" wheels for the E55?

I trust Allan on this ...

A small group of us were talking with him at the AMG Challenge at California Speedway back in April and this came up.

He was describing the Performance Package and noted that AMG had tricked out a CLS with a prototype and all went fine untill they had it at high speed long enough for the 19' tires to heat up. Then the upper supension bolts cut into the front tire sidewalls. Scary stuff.

That must have been a 255/35 tire with a larger diameter than 245 in 18 or 19". That is why some people have ground the bolt end down to the nut (1/4")
The gap between the bolt you mention and any part of the stock 245/40/18 tire is 40mm= (2.5") or +5" overall diameter, and no tire will expand that much even at supersonic speed, unless it has no steel cord and is made of bubble gum!
