Question PS2's or Nitto 555-Rs

All,

I have a couple of races lined up and unfortuantely BFGs are not going to be an option for me this time nor are a second set of rims for the rear. I am looking for the best rubber that can hook up while allowing me to drive highway speeds in the rain.

Over 50-60 mph in the rain the BFGs would hydroplane on the highway. Explaining to the wife that the $80K car can no longer driven in the rain isn't an option. :-(

So I am looking at either PS2s or Nitto 555Rs. The Vette guys I know that drag race alot swear by the Nittos and say they are good for another 10 mph in the rain. Has anyone had both before?

The Nitto's would have to be 18-inch 285 30's. The Nitto site said it would fit on the 9.5 inch rims. Thanks for the feedback.

'03 G500, '13 G63, '17 GLS63,
I could have sworn our cars rear wheels were 18x9, though.

I have heard that the Nitto's hook like a mother, but you gotta do a pretty large burnout to get them hot....yet still streetable and handle okay.

Just what I have heard.

No first hand.

get the nitto's. They are the tires I run with a lot more power than u guys do. I used to run the bfg's but it became too expensive to replace the tires once a month. The nitto's hook pretty well.

Get the Toyo RA1's. I have the Nitto 555r's on my Mustang and I do love them but, they are just like the other dr's out there. The sidewalls are a little stiffer than the bfg's but, they are still way to soft for every day use. I put the RA1's on the E55 and love them. You can't tell you have a dr or race tire on the car. It's the exact same compound as the 555r (Nitto is the cheaper brand for Toyo) but it has a stiffer side wall for track or street use. I have taken the e55 to the track and with a short, short burnout, my 60's are 1.8-1.82 and that's with the scorching heat that we've had here in Maryland and I'm running them at 38psi. I'm telling you it's a no brainer. If you drive this car everyday, don't want to change tires to go to the track, you've got to buy the RA1's.

4 wheeled car.
Don't ever get Nitto!! They are horrible! Had them on two cars and nearly got killed w/ that POS tire in the rain taking a run onto an onramp at 15mph!!!

Get the Michelins if you can. I have the BFG t/a g-Force KDW, the ones w/ the fire looking tread, and in the rain they are great.

Yes, he's asking about the drag radial and not the POS 555 extreme ZR's. The Nitto NT-555's do suck badly.

thanks guys, so you think the Toyo RA-1a are better than the PS2s? I hear the Toyos make some of the lightest tires.
