800nm. Ofcourse it's not N/A.
That, and if you read a bit further it says "V8-biturbo"
600 ponies? I was expecting more, seeing as it's only a 100hp and 170nm more than the N/A. I'm sure tuners will fix that though :p

Hi all :-)
Actually, this is part of an article that included the offical announcement of Mercedes-Benz for the new C Class in Germany for the 2007 model year.
Mercedes has said that the AMG model of the new C class will sport a new AMG 512HP (DIN)) V8 that has 6.3 liter displacement. It is NORMALLY aspirated. No mention of any use for any other models (but will sure come).
The translation for the above is roughly:
THis 6.3 Liter engine is currently the strongest V8 engine (Saug is a normally aspirated, 'Otto' engine) in the world, with 510HP and 630 Newtonmeters going 5200rpm. The red line is at 7200. AMG has designed this engine with variable in-and out vents (to be honest, I am not sure how to translate Nochenwelle :-) ) and a -what sounds like a Magnesium clutch-vaccum hose/tube.
The Six liter Bi-turbo is ANOTHER ENGINE they are talking about.
I.e. it goes on to say that 'NOW (as in after this one) AMG is working on a 6 liter V8 Biturbo which will feature more than 600HP and over 800NM.
Bottomline, the 6.3 510/512 engine was officially announced today (Bild Zeitung), the Bi turbo I haven't heard about save for this. DO we know where thsi comes from ?
Cheers,
Dan

Sorry to disappoint you all, but the article merely talks about the new 6.3 stats and technologies. It then goes on that AMG is now working on a twin turbo version of the motor producing roughly 600hp. Not a word about the C63.

This 6.3 tt is going to be a good replacement for the 6 liter v12 that's in the amg 65s. I doubt it will be cheaper than the current cl65 for $180,000.

The 65 engine won't be replaced, why should it when it can make 700hp+ in its normal form BEFORE detuning? This engine is a completely new development, it features different cylinder bank angles for starters and it IS turbocharged. 600hp is a little underestimating the potential of this engine. Personally, its good to offer different engines with varying degrees of ouput. The C/CLK/SLK should get a 400hp N/A V8 or so engine, the 55K replacements (facelifts) should get the N/A V8 with 510hp, the new generation of models can sport this engine, and for those with big bucks, 700hp S-classes would seem appealing (and damn scary)
The magazine article is from Auto Motor und Sport, Germany's most reputable car mag. You can easily see this engine being modded beyond belief...

I had a thought over the past few days.
I wonder if Benz is making these cars "mod proof" by putting in the wimpy 7 speeder.
They put in a motor that is right at the peak of what the 7 speed will handle, and if we start modding, we start frying trannies.
I don't know, it was just a thought. Sure hope not.

I heard the 63 was only going in the CL K/S series. Hope that it is a bad rumour.
I thought they were ditching the superchargers because of Euro crash regulations... they need a certain distance between the upper most portion of the engine and the underside of the hood.

z06 7 liter is only 505 hp, and Benz 6.3 is 510 so its more powerfull.
