Question about buying an '05

My local dealer has an Alabaster White with black interior, and the MSRP on it is right around 87,000-88. I test drove it a couple months ago when they got it in and they still have it. I was wondering what a reasonable offer for it would be since the 2006's are not out. Thanks for your help. Also, I will probably be trading in a 2003 745Li with ~48,000 miles. But anyway, what would a reasonable offer to them for the car without trade in and with. Thanks in advance.

The '06's starting arriving in the second week of July (mine arrived 7/18). You should definietly have some bargining power. I know one of the dealers here in Houston has a couple unsold '05's as well.

I saw one post today that suggested offering a 12 month depreciated value (since the '06 is out) is a reasonable way to start. He apparently did this many years ago on his first Benz and it worked out. So whatever that amount is.... I guess from Kelly Blue Book you should be able to figure out somehow what the average % depreciation is for the first year of a Benz and go offer them an amount equal to the MSRP they have it listed for, less that %

Maybe someone could help me out with the numbers. Anyway, another thing I am worried about is hearing about some horror stories of the car. I just really don't want to have to deal with in/out of shop all the time and HORRIBLE customer care...

It's not Toyota but I haven't had any major problems in the first year. I think the problem with service is dealer dependant. Some dealers are great others aren't.

As far buying a l year old vehicle I would check with your bank or your accountant as far as depreciation over the first year. Most services online don't give info on a one year old vehicle. The resale value of E55s are pretty high because of limited availability. A wild guess might be $7500-10k USD off.

I had a BMW M3 which was a lemon and the first year depreciation on it was $15k. I gave my dealer $5k and the car to get a new one. I felt like this was fair since I used it for a year.

Remember you are in the driver's seat and you can always order a new model the way you want it.

Although Alabaster White is the nicest color I would be hesitant to buy a car that's been sitting on the lot being subjected to multiple test drives. Cold oil, cold drivetrain and WOT right out of the lot

Some doofus in an X5/4.4i pulled out of the Bimmer dealer as I passed in my E55. The light in front of the dealership turns red and we're first in line - he and salesguy are staring at me. Light turns green and he floors it. That poor engine was stone cold.

Of course, I showed him why he shouldn't buy a slow SUV.

Anyway, if you buy the 05 that's sitting on the lot, I would ask for a significant discount.

Well what's really gonna hose you is the trade amount they'll give you on the 745. If you're patient, why not order an 06 which will take about two months to get and give you time to hopefully sell the 7. As a last resort you could always trade them the 7 when the E arrives. If you negotiate them way down on the 05 you're looking at then you'll have to start working on the trade value they'll give you---that's where they'll make back all the ground you've worked so hard for then you own a depreciated 05.

Well I went to the dealer today and I first asked for the a deal on the E55, not mentioning the trade in then. The stick on the car is $88, 580 and the said they would knock off $3000, so $85,580. Then I mentioned the trade-in and they offered $39,000!! so that means that I would pay $46,580+tax on the trade-in. F-THAT! It's a 2005, which can be considered a year old.
