SRS warning!!

The SRS light on the dash is on and there is a message that says SRS malfunction drive to service center.

Somebody please tell me this is just an electric glitch that can be "flashed"...PLEASE!!

I love this car. Done let it go sour.

Jangy,

Although I had a different problem, the stealer told me that some of the dash warnings occur when the system gets low voltage from the battery. I would definitely check it out though.

I'm taking it in today. I am hoping that they do not need to tear anything up to get into the system.
Damn, I am sooo dissapointented. This thing had better not go sour on me!

Jangy, I had the exact same thing happen a few months ago. They fixed it in a morning. They needed to replace the "watch spring". The SA says he's seen it before on the E and was all ready for me.

Usually is a seat sensor. My 03 E500 had this happen one time.

Agreed - I have a swipe card for the underground at my office and when I leave it on the passenger seat it triggers the SRS warning. I dont suppose you accidentally left an access swipe on your seat?

No this isn't a problem with the system thinking there's an unbelted passenger. You get a big bright red warning on the COMAND that says you have an "SRS Malfunction" and to head to a service center. When I called my dealer they had a good guess what was going on and figured it was this watch spring in the steering column.

Too true, this is a real thing.

I was told that the connector on the steering wheel was replaced.

All seems fine and I even smoked a new vette on the way home

Hi Jangy,

I just got an 05 E500 and it's the SRS malfunction. I've been reading this thread and just wants to get a little bit more info about fixing this problem. So, is the problem can be fixed by DIY?

Old thread back to life.

For the poster that asked if it is a DIY fix. Yes, but you will need the sensor. You simply swap it out and it resides in the back panel of the driver seat.
