TV Tuner

Since a lot of E55 owners have TV Tuner's in their car, could you tell me how many channels of cable you are getting? Any monthly fees?

I'm having Steve install this in my car on his next trip.

Thanks

Dinko

Could you explain that in more detail? 500 channels within your neighborhood? How abuot 10, 20, 50, 500 miles from your home? Lastly, how much monthly?

I run Digital Cable, with my DVR mounted in the glove box next to the disk changer. Occasionaly on those long road trips, i order myself a Pay Per View. My monthly fee's? Well i got a package deal... Had the phone in the command activated with the package, and Cable Connection for the laptop on the passenger seat. ALL 3 for 74.99.. i think its a fine deal.

Dinko, what we're trying to say (somewhat sarcastically) is that the integral TV tuner will not receive anything but OTA (over the air) TV signals. Your TV channels will only be receivable if your are close enough to a broadcast station. It will not receive cable or sat channels.

Yup, there is actually a vendor, TracVision - you can get DirecTV broadcast, the "dish" is flat but it would still be not very aesthetic.

on a serious note... they do sell sat recievers for vehicles (mainly boats) they run about 3500 i think. but as korveine stated, would be pretty F-ugly.

I do have a TV tuner in my Coupe, living in San Diego, (which has many mild hills) the reception is not really all that bad. The only time poor reception gets irritating is while driving, often the audio will blast horrible sudden static noises.

LOL. This idea came from you Derek, I should have looked at your set up a little closer.

All in all, is this TV Tuner idea worth it? How many channels can I expect and how good is the picture quality? Or.. should I forget about the whole thing, and be happy with the Euro Comand w/ DVD ?

I've made up my mind, TV Tuner is not worth it. Will stick with the Euro Comand.

Thanks!

Besides providing me with some laughs, this string has tought me what those things are on top of a few Escalades I have seen in my neighborhood. Sat. dishes. Who needs that much entertainment in their car? I guess my neighbors do.

It took a lot of consideration for my wife and me to decide to get a DVD player in our family car. And we only allow it for trips over 30 minutes. I cannot imagine needing numerous channels. Too funny.
