Can you give me some info on TT Porsche.

So the wife is always trying to introduce me to her friend's husbands in hopes that we can all become a super close 4 some.

So she introduces me to this guy and says "Jim loves to drag race", knowing this guy like to race his car at different tracks.

The guys looks at me a smurks....and I ask what he runs and he says "twin turbo Porsche"
I mention that I am running a blown Benz and he kinda laughs at me. I say that I run around 12.5-12.7 at altitude, but wanna make it down to Sacramento to see what she will do at Sea Level, should kick 11.7 if I get a good hookup. He makes a smart a$$ comment...."altitude has nothing to do with blowers, otherwise airplanes would not use them"

He then does on to say how his TT will do 0-60 in 3.5. Is that true...can stock TT's pull 3.5 0-60. It's not the 500K carrera or anything....can a 996 do that? Just don't know anything about Porsche's. Then he makes me laugh when he says he has a buddy that runs an RS6....."bet the Benz would struggle with that"... whatever

1) Can stock TT P cars run 3.5 0-60
2) I KNOW this...but just reassuring....altitude affects blowers.

What an idiot....could have been a neat relationship......I'll pass on this one.

Let him put up or shut up. Jak you would smoke him in a straight line. He obviously is not as knowledgable as he thinks. My buddy with his 997TT X50 has gained an immense amt of respect for the Beast. He's on the list for a 2006 997 tiptronic when it's available with the increased HP. BTW he rarely drives his TT since our incident. His own son razzes him about having a Pcar that can't keep up with a 4 door. (mine is completely stock also) :p

You probably would smoke him in a straight line, but I'd give it to 100mph or something. 3.5sec 0-60 seems very possible on an X50...

Altitude does affect blowers, but then again, what is the ambient temp on airplane engines (which are, in essence big *** turbochargers)? Yeah, the less dense air gets taken care of the really cold air.
But that's why the engines spool up for so long too I think.

Forgive me for being lost on P cars. Is X50 like a special high performance version. Seems like there are 996 and 911 X50's online.

He got quiet when I said " next time you guys hit the track, lemme know and I will bring er out, sounds like a lot of fun" Probably used to being the big dog running against that RS6......I am gonna find out when he is going next and show up whether he asks me or not.

Charge up the camcorder...this is gonna be good.

It's so fast you hang back until cars are almost all the way around an on-ramp before giving it some gas, and you let other big-power cars - and the usual souped-up imports - get a head start at stoplights before blasting up to the speed limit. With the Turbo able to hit 100 km/h in something like four seconds dead, 60 km/h is just an easy roll of the right foot away (with the briefest of pauses for the twin turbos to spool up) and reachable in first gear.
It looks wicked

The X50 is a performance package for the 911's. The 996 or 997 is there model year. Just like our 210 or 211. If he doesn't have the x50 package, you will more than likely smoke him at the dragstrip. Most guys can't drive those cars to their full potential. Turbos can be a little tricky to drive for the average ahole like this guy seems to be.

996 and 997 are like W210 and W211, they are the chassis numbers. 911 is the model number. X50 is a factory souped up version of the Twin Turbo.

I got a 996 TT, modified to add. I would take the E55 as my choice in a straight line from a dead stop, the TT is a pain to launch. Your best launches IMO on the TT come from 4k RPM drop clutches. I find that my E55 is faster and my TT is quicker if that makes any sense. Two different animals but up and over 140 mph I like the E55. Stock versus stock and I still would want my E55 from a stop (going straight of course). Now a rolling race from 20-100 mph would be a different story.

Your 911 sure is fast as hell from what i saw and heard. Me and the dirty one need a ride in that beast. My bro was gonna get a 911 Turbo before he moved, but maybe i can talk him into an M6, since he loves the 6 Series so much.

Jack you could destroy that 911 with your mods. Dont even worry about it. He would get you out of the hole if he knows how to drive, but knowing this dousche he probably has a 911 Turbo with Automatic and just bought the car to pose around in, i bet he doesnt even know what 100 MPH looks like.

Also there isnt a 997 Turbo yet, its in testing currently at the Ring.

Respekt to douches with automatics that don't know what 100 mph looks like

Let's do a poll, pictures please?

Another fast Porsche would be the GT2 which is like the lighter, RWD only version of the 996TT. The new 997TT will also be out next fall.

The guy sounds like he has no idea what his car or the E55 are capable of doing. No way his stock 996 TT can come close to 3.5 0-60. Having owned a 911 TT in stock and modded variants and owning a E55 with the same mods like you he will be very surprised with the results

'03 G500, '13 G63, '17 GLS63,
I've driven stock 996TT and can honestly say the E55 is faster, stock for stock. I let a friend of mine who had recently spent a weekend shopping for a 996TT take it for a spin. His response when he came back was "WOW!! I had no idea how much power these cars had! It's definitely faster than the 996TT!!"
However, I can't comment on the X50. But with your mods, I'm sure it would be a good race.

Just wanted to say thanks for the positive info today guys.

Much appreciated. Sometimes when one of these guys starts shooting off his mouth, you start to doubt. I knew I boatload of guys here had $$$ and P cars and would give me the correct info.

It'll be a good race....gonna try to catch this guy at the next race at this small track in Wendover NV.....

Hopefully the RS6 will show up with him as well....will get 2 kills with one AMG stone. P car will be a close one....but I now think I got a good chance.

If its a tiptronic, it might be close. Much easier on the drivetrain and he can build boost off the line. But if it's a 6-speed, he's gonna have to RAPE that car to get a good launch.

One thing about altitude and turbos, etc - Altitude has a great effect on an internal combustion engine, as we all know very well. A forced induction system helps to compensate for the lack of oxygen by forcing more of it into the engine. However, the higher the altitude, the less air/oxygen to work with and the lower the performance for either an NA or FI engine. I can guarantee that your car is going to run stronger in Sacramento. I have some personal experience with NA and turbo vehicles that I drove to Denver from Dallas/Ft. Worth and the performance was degraded quite a bit in Denver. Have fun killing both of them.

Ahhh The Sedan beats a Porsche... A Lot of The 996 TT Owners have no clue what a Modded E55 can do to there ego!

Run Him with a couple of you friends in the 55..hey its a sedan.and Please let us know...Tell Him Put up or Shut up...Take a Video!

the stock 911tt is 415hp and x50 bumps it up to 444hp.
this guy right here says he's got 950hp on his 996tt.

and then of course you might have seen a 700hp 911 pulling on the carrera gt. so, i think it really depends on how heavily modified that 911 is.

Just did some checking on the aerospace museum website...

Some stats for that guy when my wife forces me to "bump into him" again.

You need compressed air [term: boost] to keep maximum engine performance at higher altitudes because the density (compactness) of air decreases with altitude. Air density decreases because, as you fly away from the earth, there is less air to pile on top of the air below it. This concept is easy to visualize by piling the kids onto each other. The bottom kid has the most pressure on top of him; the top kid has the least.

Note how the density of air decreases with altitude in the following chart. You only have half the density by the time you reach 20,000 feet.

Altitude (feet) Density Ratio
0 ....................1.000
5000 (SLC) ........0.862

The disadvantage of the gear driven supercharger is that as air pressure decreases with altitude, the supercharger, spinning at a constant speed, cannot maintain its high pressure boost.

You can follow the TT's into corners and beat them on a straight with a bit of luck...
Watch this video of me chasing and overtaking a TT on a Sydney circuit!
It all depends on the skill and cojones of each driver.
