What remote system are you planning on using?
I have an old Clifford alarm brain that I pulled out of a wreck about 10 years ago and was gunna pickup a DEI adjustible window timer so I can control it by remote, but the last time I tested the alarm, the max range was only about 70ft. with the remote stuck under my chin
I wouldn't mind having the extra range for sneak attacks

Hmm, I'll have to ask Matt about it next time he's online....
Do you know if it uses a pulse timer or is it wired as a direct circuit?

Ok, well do you know if the horn will keep blasting until you let go of the button on the remote or if it is a timed blast duration?
I only want it to blast for a full second or two and the window timer can be adjusted from 1 to 90 seconds IIRC
It's only like $8 bucks and can be added to any alarm system which is why I'm considering it, but it will work on a pulse (like regular power locks) and give me a 12v signal to trigger the horn relay for as long as I want
I'm kinda iffy about using a direct circuit because the ones I've used before had a tendancy to get stuck in the on position (not a good thing with horns this loud lol)

Yeah, my solenoid actually got stuck open when I drove home to NYC from Orlando last week
I installed it high in the air duct for the vents to keep it cool and dry....
What I didn't count on was sub-zero temperature and highway speed wind chill
Tapped the button when an 18 wheeler tried to muscle his way in front of me without using his signal somewhere in Maryland and the noid stuck open cause it was frozen!!
I looked liked a bumbling idiot behind the wheel, flipping switches, hitting buttons and holding my ears
All I could do was wait until the tank emptied itself
I wrapped the noid in a towel as a quick fix and it's working fine again, but I'll definitely be doing sumthin more permanent when I get back to the shop....

A new set is a bit out of my budget though
I'll most likely end up with a used set for around $700

Cool vids. It sounded like you had about 5 seconds of really loud horn and it trailed off from that point. How much louder do you think your K3 will be then the hornblasters (plastic?) horns?

The K3's are about 3 to 4 times louder
I can't wait to hear them both at the same time
The tank dump should last like a second or two lol

It's actually louder than any truck horn on the market, but just not on par with authentic locomotive horns....
Both are too deafening up close to tell which is louder....
The main difference is how the sound carries over a distance....

Yes, P5's are loud as hell, but harder to mount due to the configuration of the horns....

More pix of the daily beater
And for thse who don't know how loud these things really are, here's a little shop test video of the K3HA before I installed it on the van
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...TER+Locomotive
Note, I only used 80psi with a 1/4" inlet in that test...
It's currently using 150psi with a non restricted 3/4" line, so it's MUCH louder
Here are some vids I uploaded over the weekend:
Train Horn Comparison test (blows all 3 horns separately from a distance......listen for the echo)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...61143387718685
Switchpanel Testing (shows how I can activate each horn or all 3 from the stock horn button)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...01056673817087
7 Chime Tank Dump (shows how long I can blast all of the horns on a 5 gallon tank with 150psi)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...36678094186744

I upgraded my horn last week. It had a smallish compressor and regulator that limited the air flow to 120PSI. It now has a huge compressor and a 200psi regulator. I had some fun with the local dirtlegs who gathered to have street parties on the 4th.

Yep, I did about 6 weeks ago and then the dealer had to service some issues, including one with the battery and the remote hasn't worked since. My service rep got a message about it after the fact but didn't respond. I may see if its a quick fix that the original installer can do for me.

Hey A-8:
I brought my beast into Brumos yesterday for periodic service and my service advisor (Jonathan) said, "We had an e55 here awhile ago with TRAIN HORNS mounted in the trunk!!" I told him I knew who you were from these boards. He said they fired off your horn in the service bay while they were working on your car! OMG - it must have shattered windows and eardrums!!
Surprised we haven't run into each other yet at the beach. If you see me, make sure you hit the horn, and I'll pull over to say hi and check out your rig!
