Don't get me wrong they will probably beat our E55's in lots of rolling races, but race them from a standstill and utilize our torque advantage is the way to play against these guys. In the muscle car era I owned a Chevy 409 (remember the beach boys song?) in racing the Mopars (426 Plymouths & dodges) I would only race these guys from a "Roll" to offset their superior "Out of the hole" Torqueflite transmissions. These cars literally leaped out of the hole when they Brake torqued and pulled away from me even though our HP ratings were the same.
I am willing to bet that our 1/4 mile times will be better because they have to race from a dead stop. Even with their "Launch Control" they have to rev to 4000 rpm to get up in their torque band. But when all is said and done, THOSE CARS ARE BUTT UGLY, PERIOD!
I think the new bmws look great and I love the styling on the new m6

E90 sales are up over 85% over the e46 when it came out so more people are liking the newer bmw styling than you think.

the v10 has a dip in tourqe in the mid range and then peaks up at 6k there is more tourqe @3k than there is where there launching it.

Why are you so paranoid? I simply pointed out, accurately, that none other than Gustav had participated in multiple rolling-start races with a Porsche Turbo, and had reported the same results, i.e. that the E55 beat the Porsche by a huge margin, on his M5 forum.

I thought that Mercedes fans (exculding you, apparently) might actually find this information to be interesting. Do you speak for all??

And are you forgetting that this is, after all,

A Mercedes forum???

Even the founder and owner of Koenigsegg cars attended the meeting with his Koenigsegg monster, ........ no he did not race -- that would have been a flat out murder....

On this event the M6 lost some but won most of them.....
Regarding Tip or manuel, I have no clue.

If Gustav check in, he can maybe fill in the answer.....
You're a BMW guy in a AMG forum.....................yeh, I trying to provoke flame war. That is because you are in the AMG forum..................and I drive a AMG.

Anyway..........................not talking ****.............because I'm not..........but.............congradulations...... ...........BMW has been served for a few years now by the w211 e55..............and Bmw has recently managed to polish a turd.

NOT taking away the performance of the M5...........because I'm not.............but beating all of those cars? dude, come on!

But hey.................I wasn't there.

IF it is as fast as that STAGED video shows....................good

BMW's prize will get served by the E63 very soon and I will go to your forum and show you the video

Gustav was claimed to be a liar last time he arranged simular events, later the same results has been reported by others.

This time he run the M6, and offcourse you will have some idiots claiming this also is fake...

The event was anounced in advance and everyone was invited to take on the M6. Dont you think a lot of car fans would just love to kick some M6 butt.... Take a look at the turnout, lots of different brands......
Anyone seriously beliving this is all fake is just being silly.....

Regarding the fact that Gustav is the only one that has participated in a race with 996TT and some E55 with the M5/6 is not so strange....

How many of the M5 owners do you think know this site exist ? and how many of them would post their fun on a internett page, in % of the owners, I guess close to 0.

Very few non M5 owner has the possibility to lend such a car for several days, and how many of those do you belive is crazy enough to stage such events, film it and post it on the interenett just for the fun of it......

Gustav is obviously crazy enough and have the contacts necesarry.
Great IMO....

BTW: Gustav is not the only one that has raced the AMG Kompressor and the 996TT, I have done it to, 1 huge loos and 1 very narrow loss.

Cant understand why some of you are getting close to a heartattack again, no AMG kill has been posted yet, only a 996 and a AUDI kill.

I would belived that you was cheering for the AUDI kill, aint that you favorit enemy number 2.

No offense, but i'm just looking forward to when DerekFSU gets his M5 and can share his test results. Derek has a great reputation for publishing results, unbiased, even if he's rooting for one team or another.

Gustav, well let's just say he's a devout BMW fan. He makes nice videos. Could use better camera techniques and maybe a class or two on video editing and choosing better music to score them with.

I'd be interested in seeing some 0 to XX speed runs. The rolling starts are nice, but around town, we're not going to roll down the street and get up to speed for the M5 before we play.

Info you want to see more and a standing start with M6 vs. 996tt:

70mb video

EDIT: And this one was made by the Porsche guys. Stock 996TT do 1/4-miles in around 12.4s, right? So M6 is anywhere below that, possibly even high 11's?

I'm getting a M5 in about 2 to 3 weeks...but Erik all the post I've ever read by you are all Mx is basically faster than X car.

For the most part people here don't give a ***** about that, I find it interesting because I like cars in general. As a soon to be a M5 owner, I will admit that it's not the a beautiful car by any means and the interior will take A LOT to get used to. I saw the first M5 in NoVA today in black on black, and quite frankly it doesn't look much different than a 545i with SP, while a great machine I'm sure, the looks of the car is not exotic at all.

I still want to know if it was a tip or not. I have a 6 speed 996 TT and a stage III E55 and I know my E55 will run well against that M6. I just dont see that much of a walk, I can see the M6 beating the TT but did you see the disparity?? I dont care if that car is faster or not just want to make sure the race was real and against a worthy TT.

Nice video but not surprising. I did exactly the same race, but from way back at Eastern Creek in my E55, and also left the Porsche TT far behind.I posted the video "VIDEO (racecam) The Beast beats Porsches at Eastern Creek" quite some time ago.

After owning an E55 which can be driven hard 24/7, why would you stoop down to an M5, which must use "launch Control" once every 10 min to achieve barely what the Beast does all day long? The rest of the time it's no faster than 545i...Plus, it's ugly as sin and not as easy to live with on a daily basis. Be prepared for a major disappointment. It's your money...

Dear Gustav, sorry, I mean Erik, :v

1) Gustav does not have an impartial reputation.
2) Video skills - yes the video was entertaining. I was just rubbing you the wrong way for sport. Chill.
3) Video of 0 - XX, yea I saw it. Was nice to just get a link from someone giving information w/o a diatribe on BMW.

Looking forward to seeing what the M5/6 can do. Given what I've read about the break in period and people having engine problems, I really hope people don't actually torque the hell out of them before that break in period is over.

I'd take the opinion of the M5 more from someone who has also owned the E55. There are a couple of board members here that are doing just that and there word(s) will carry more weight with me. They will get to drive both cars in "real world" conditions.

All the posting from one side or another on this issue can get boring without direct comparisons from impartial sides. I respect the M5 (I used to own an M3) prowess, but I would never ever buy one. Just personal taste and lifestyle choices on my part.

I'm never going to race Nurburgring, Florida doesn't have any canyons, and I like to open my garage door and not feel like saying, "...at least she's got a great personality (a la ugly chick)...but boy can she drive..."

Well...let the flames on each side continue.

It is from a rolling start, which does not need LC and an E55 will do exactly the same job on the Porsche, from standstill, rolling start or whatever.
No, I am not that blind and actually beat TT on circuit many times, not just watch silly videos with my mouth wide open in awe, pulling my pud.

OK, that is actually not my intention. I know they are not, and thats fine.
I am foremost a carenthusiast as youselves, my taste goes in the direction of M cars, thats all.

I just react a bit everytime somebody scream about a fake or staged videos everytime they show results they do nok like.
I promiss I start to ignore it. Deal

But based on the reponses here everytime some claim to have outrun an AMG, I would say most people do care, at least those who scream the loudest.....

Congrats to you about your choice of car.
I think you will like it, unless you are to much of an MB driver at heart Hope you get used to the looks, cause the car will entertain you during driving.

When do you take delivery ? I guess you have not driven it either, ?
How do you take the chance to buy such an expensive car without a real test drive in advance ?

About the exotic looks or the lack of it. No it does not look exotic, its not meant to either.

The Munich-based carmaker said it sold 94,622 new 3-Series saloons since the model's relaunch in March -- 85 percent more than were sold of the previous-generation model in the same time period after its launch in April 1998 (51,155).[/I]

and in many vidoes the m5 pulled on stock e55's and chipped ones.

it even pulled faster times in the wrong gear pulls that some mags tested(rolling)never mind if the m5 uses L/C wich 90% of the time the driver wont have to anyway.
