Ok, but that is a stock exhaust or my eyesight has gone to crap. Anyone else see the AMG?

Also, the Z06 had two people in it

Try a nice tone though next time.. goes further with most people.

AS for the results.. sure the 1/2 price vette was fast..

BUT

considering weight/size/luxury/quietness/workmanship/highspeed stability and German Engineering... I'd take the Benz even if it were 3X the price.

I spoke to my buddy Daniel (owner of the CL65 AMG) and it was a 2006 C6 Z06. In fact, it is the first guy to own one in Las Vegas. I'm hoping to race him this weekend.

u might have a chance if u guys start from a roll
otherwise youll never make up the time lost on ur launch
(auto, weight, torque down low and im assuming street tires)

That is if the Z06 can catch traction.


Also isnt it kind of stupid for him to be racing so soon? Ive heard of some issues with the Z06 engine already.

Absolutely. The previous one, with 405 hp, was very tricky to launch, and this one is the same weight with 100 more hp and almost as much more torque, so it'll be an absolute pain to get it out of the hole. *Very* few people are going to be able to hop in this car and turn sub-12 second 1/4's with any level of consistency, if at all.

I think I might have a better chance from a dead-stop. I can launch my car pretty well on street tires without too much wheel spin.

BTW - from rolling 20 mph to 120mph I have that CL65 by about 2-3 cars and around 165 he gets me by about 3 cars. That CL65 has great top end.

In case you guys are wondering it has a partial exhaust system and ECU.

The Z06 will be tricky to launch, but anyone who has spent time at the track with high hp vehicles should be able to get some good traction after a little practice. (Then again I am in my Fifties and am used to the good old days of 600-800hp big blocks with no traction and bad brakes). The Z06 and CL65 are two very different vehicles. If you want class and power, go for the CL65. If you want a capable daily driver and weekend autoX/scca vehicle, go for the Z06.

7 minutes and 43 seconds to complete Nürburgring for $72K... sold me.

the new one has wider tires and chevy is claiming 3.7 to 60
even if a person isnt that good at launching they should still run 4.2-4.4
and after itll only get faster, 0-100 is about 8seconds

I disagree. It takes a great deal of skill, and some bullet-quick reflexes, to launch a 500 HP rwd car without spinning the tires wildly or smoking the clutch, to time and execute the 1-2 shift without short shifting or hitting the rev limiter when revs are building wildly, etc.

I'll give you a few real-life examples: I raced a guy in a Viper once to 70, and he beat me by 1/2 car length. If he was driving it to its potential, it would have been multiple lengths. On another occasion, I raced a previous-gen Z06 (the 405 hp version) from a dig; this car was tested at about 1 second faster than mine, but I led him until 90 mph, when he finally blew by.

Car & Driver ran 0-60 in 3.6 but got a 5-60 time of 4.3, meaning that the launch picked them up nearly a full second (factoring in the 0-5 mph time), and that's still with a pro at the wheel who would time the 1-2 perfectly. So with a non-pro who's not good at launching nor perfectly competent in shift timing, etc., I would expect 0-60 times in the upper 4's, even up into the low 5's for some of the, "less graceful" drivers.

Obviously, the better the driver, the better the times, but in my experience the mag times are by no means indicitive of the outcome in a street race, particularly in the case of a manual vs. an auto where the times are very close...

This brings us two questions and maybe some common sense?

1. How will a modded CL65 such as that one do against modded E55 like Derik or Gid???

2. How will it run against a stage 2 evosport or kleemann k2???

3. If our car will run just as fast with an additional 10k or so that would be more impressive than the CL65 @ 4654lbs and 165k and really only 2 passengers or the Z06 @ 3100lbs and 75k and only 2 passenger's we can carry 4 passenger's and in some cases 5 passengers.

No, I'm out in CA this week drinking wine It was a mess last Sunday, very busy. It will be a mob scene there today.

Bring your Mustang out, it sounds like a monster. I hope to have my C5 down closer to single digits after my winter mods.

I hope I can. I'm having the exhaust done this coming week and I have some roll bar issues that need to be fixed. Car goes in on Monday so, if it's done I'll bring it. if not, I'll be in the E55. I can't wait to see your Z06 run. Car looks mean and sounds like it should be a blast to watch go down the track. Enjoy the wine. When you get back shoot me an email. I have a local wine dealer that takes care of me that I can turn you onto. He can get you anything you want and will sell to you at $1 over his cost as long as you buy a case at time.
