Hey BMW - have you seen the new Jaguar ads?

... "Gorgeous Trumps Everything"

Well in the M5's case: "Ugly Kills Everything"

Bottom Line - I've never dated a girl I didn't think was at least somewhat attractive - even if she had great "skills" (...well not for long anyway!).

...so I'm sorry Mr. Bangle et. al. but until your styling approaches something remotely attractive I'll just keep looking at the prior M5 and continue to wonder what the hell happened! Time to look for a new job Mr. Flame Surface.

In the meantime I'll drive my E55 and 993 widebody and continue to sneak peeks into the garage late at night.

As a former lover of the blue propellor brand I just had to get that off my chest...

Most of the new BMW designs are horrible but I think the M6 looks OK.

I also actually like the new 3 series ... kind-of.

I agree regarding the M6 but it's almost like I can "look past" the styling of the M6 because it's such a great car otherwise. Then I start thinking - why should I have to "look past" anything at $100k?

When I was a kid the 635csi and the M6 performed great AND looked great. I just think the company has made a big mistake... just my $.02

Yeah, the car that almost got me killed (well, not b/c of the car.... b/c of a truck who cut me and brake). May it rest in peace

Mercedes definitely has more beautiful designs that BMW. but then again none ever bought a beemer for it's looks, but for its driving

the ugly chick with "tricks" comparison is perfect. I still see myself calling up that "ugly" chick when I really wanna have fun.

No. I think using that analogy, I'd do something like get a Noble M400 (did I get that right?)

The M5 is a car in a class where it needs to be a 'racecar' for the everday driver. If you can bear to drive it only on the weekends or some crap like that, than to me, the car has missed the target audience, and failed.

It's been said hundreds of times, the guys who buy E55s don't because they drive an E55 once a month at the track, but because they can drive their cars everyday, with business associates, with chicks in the back, with some gardening tools in the back, and then when they are done rape some 11 second Vette's and Camaros and then get kicked off the track for not running with a roll cage

I guess I'm the odd man here that actually likes the BMW styling. Regardless, I prefer the M-B's. I am smitten with the M6 and the M5 is rather tempting, but there's much to be said about the day-to-day user-friendliness of teh E55 vs. the raw edge of the BMW M's. Different strokes for different folks, and that's alright with me. Considering I have an infant son and need the utmost in comfort right now, the E55 fits the bill much better than the M5.

I too think the BMW designs are growing on me. Didn't like the 7er til this year so we bought one. The new 3 looks HOT...would buy a 330i now if I was in my mid 20s. The 5er looks ok, but I was following a 545 with SP the other day and the back did look pretty aggressive. I like the E55 A LOT but I just can't see buying the same car twice, plus it's kinda "dated" to me now (flame suit on). I'm not talking smack about the Benz as I am still a HUGE fan of the designs, minus the ML (still looks like a Milk Truck to me). I'm getting a M5 in hopefully 1 more week, but I have to admit that the looks of the car didn't stand out like I expected. The E55 to me looks radically different than a E500, while the M5 didn't looks too much different than a 545 to me. Now BMW is offering M Aerodynamic kit which makes a 530i with it look like a M5 is coming at you. I don't agree with this option nor the E500 with the AMG Package. The M and AMG should be VERY distinctive in peformance and especially in appearance.

We have 2 kids, wife drives the 750 with a baby seat and we have an Escallade for the long trips with the kids so the M5 won't be an issue.

I still can't get over the Bangled butt...... The lines are so odd that they don't flow with the rest of the car. The front is a little ricey for my taste as well. I bet the driving experience would be great in the BMW, but my childhood experience told me that it's really the ultimate driving machine coz the ride sucks for the passenger, especially those in the rear.

The new M3 is a whole other story. It is tempting though with the 400HP V8 and SMG III. I might consider that if I can find another cheap parking spot around town. However, the butt-line is still the major problem for exterior looks......

We also have two kids, decided to keep the E55 (skip the M5) but pick up a 750Li for the smooth ride and rear seat space.

Honestly, the ride of the E55 is as rough as I'm prepared to go as I mainly drive in the city and have little to gain from the stiff suspension. The 545i sports package was already too tiring for me.

Babies ride in the Odyssey Touring or the Audi allroad. Hard to beat quattro in bad weather and sliding doors for family trips.

The M5? I don't mind the rear or side but the front headlights are just unacceptably ugly.

My last (and most loved) BMW. There was something about that car.
