Flat AMG Hood Emblem

I just got a flat amg emblem from Mario. It is great - looks beautiful, incredibly well made, fits perfectly, and super easy to install. I didn't think I'd like the colors, but it looks superb on my Flint Grey. To add to the great experience, Mario's customer service is superb. Very responsive, agreed to overnight ship, sent me detailed "idiot-proof" instructions. Can't say enough - worth every penny. His contact info is mdonati@interserv.com.

Just do a search for flat emblem on this board and there is a few already posted (not by me) Its the apple tree/camshaft design -- looks just like the logo on your engine (near the builder's signature) except in color. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll figure out how to post a pix

Quality is superb. Some type of thick metal (maybe brass) Comes with, post two rubber washers, metal washer, locking washer, and wing nut. Fit is excellent. I compared this to an OEM Mercedes badge from the coupes and this was at least equilavent in quality and much, much nicer looking and cooler. Here is a link to post with pictures of Mario's emblem

$149. I asked for overnight shipping so it was slightly more -- in fact, I paid an extra 10 for overnight, it was actually more than 10 and Mario ate the difference -- like I said, excellent customer service! And, by the way, those who know me know that I am extremely picky about my car stuff (and maybe about everything) so when I say something is excellent, it truly is.

All: I have one on mine and I am too very OCD when it comes to aftermarket mods-the piece is high quality and Mario's service is impeccable! Joker

Still buying the $149- emblems, huh? I'm still happy with my $20- one. Here's some pics:

Wheels were a mistake, I admit (dealer recommendation when I was still naive about lots of this stuff - I am slowly learning, thanks to reading posts on the forum by helpful members such as you and others) and I have new HREs on order (547Rs just like yours, what a coincidence!).

The hood emblem I have is EXACTLY the same as Mario's, except for the $129- metal post, like I said. Did you look at the images I posted in that link? Compare my pics to one of Mario's, and then tell me these aren't the exact same ornaments!

The reason for the sarcasm in my post (this is about the third time I have posted about this), is not about the money, not because I'm cheap, not because I opt for "fake" equipment on my $100K car, its the prinicpal of someone so blatantly overcharging for an inexpensive item because they know they can get away with it since they have a deep-pocket client base that doesn't think twice about dishing out a few extra bucks for stuff like this. If the actual ornament piece can be sold for a profit on e-bay for $20-, how much do you think it costs Mario to get one with a post soldered onto the back? $25 or $30 at the most? At $30-, he is charging a 400% mark-up. Even a jeweler would think that 400% is probably excessive. And some of you, who have bought these ornaments from him, are saying that the "quality and workmanship" can't be matched, or glowing words to that effect, thus perpetuating his ability to rip off others looking for this item. The truth is, the quality and workmanship are exactly the same as the $20- one that I have, except for the metal post. Further, if the workmanship were so superb, then where are the five diagonal lines, in increasing thickness, immediately to the left of the "AMG" letters in the "official" corporate logo - didn't anyone notice that?! I just am pointing out that there is an alternative out there, for those who may not wish to support the business of someone who practices with this ethic. Same thing with the tires I buy - I do not buy them from the MB dealership because I know they will overcharge me since that's what they do with everything they sell. I don't buy them from the dealership and pay the mark up and then suggests that everyone else do the same because "the workmanship can't be beat" - you guys would laugh me off the boards! Final word, and then I'll stop - I would be willing to bet, that if this item were for sale by Jerry at ForMyMercedes.com, for example, he would be selling it for $35- at the most. I only mention Jerry because I have dealt with him frequently on small cosmetic things for my car (illuminated door sills, AMG-logo pedals, CL grille) and he ALWAYS delivers high quality items at a reasonable price and backs it up with good customer service (he recently sent me some replacement ribs for my CL grille at no charge, when I told him the paint was bubbling). In fact, I think I'll suggest to Jerry that he look into adding this item to his inventory. I did not really mean to get this deep into this issue, but the $149- price you guys seem to be happy with paying Mario just irks me.

Happy driving!

P.S. - Sorry, I made a mistake above - I paid $15- for my emblem, not $20. So Mario's metal post must be worth $134-, not $129. My bad.

I corresponded with Jerry @ ForMyMercedes.com last night, and he is actively trying to find a vendor to sell him these hood ornaments. Hopefully, soon, the membership will thus have a reputable source for these emblems, as an alternative to Mario, where the price will be more reasonable and fair.

Wanna buy mine?

Since this thread is still going I thought I would mention this. I purchased one of these superb AMG Hood Emblems from Mario for my E55 but soon after, I traded my E55 in for a CLS55 and so now its just sitting on my desk. If anyone wants it, I will take $80 shipped (in the US) via PayPal. It was only on the car for a month. Save $40-$50 for the highest quaility type available and PM if interested.

When you see the quality, you will know it was money well spent! The cheap ones look like what they cost, I know from experience!

Can you PLEASE post pictures of yours? I REALLY want to see evidence of the difference in quality between yours (Mario's) and my cheap one (link to pictures of mine above). From previous pictures of others' that were bought from Mario, they look EXACTLY the same. I am waiting for someone to show me something different. Please.

I'm not sure exactly what you all are arguing over, but I may be able to shed some light. I bought my flat emblem (just star) at Autowerks in San Diego for about $25. They said it was an OEM part for some other model. It has a post and was very easy to install with a 10mm nut on it. However, over time, the clearcoat on it has begun to fade and chip. That is why i want a higher quality one. I may even be off on what I got, but it did come ina little bag with MB stickers on it. Also, it is slightly larger than the divot in the hood, so I was hoping to find one that fits snug.

Clear lenses are not too bad on a silver car, but you may also want to take a look at the prepainted (to match your body color) lenses that Evosport carries. They'll run about twice as much as the clear ones ($95 pair), but IMO look much better--clear clashes less than orange, but body color doesn't clash at all.

This may be ghetto, but why not take the inexpensive hood emblem, JBWeld a stud on it, get a wingnut and washer and now you've got the same thing but for a lot less money
