Want to lower my E55...
I am looking to drop my 04' E55 an inch, and am not sure who to go with. I spoke to a Kleeman Dealer (Topline Performance in Burlingame, CA) that indicated that the Kleeman Module is not necessarily the best way to go. He told me that there is a "German Company" that has a product that will achieve the result I am looking for, and can even adjust the car on all 4 corners to the desired height. Anyone ever heard of such a thing?
Also, I have a set of 20" HRE 542's on the car, and it looks as though the back end does not require lowering, as it sits perfectly below the fender. The main issue I have is with the front end, where there seems to be a wider gap between the tire and the fender. Anyone ever lower JUST the front? Is that bad?
Any constructive input would be much appreciated.

Read up on this thread from the CL55 forum. Their cars have a different suspension than we do but Adam, who lowered his car, posted info on all the lowering modules. The basic features of each module should be the same whether you have a CL or E, the Kleemann version which I have is pricey but gives a wide spread of ride heights.

I'd give it a shot, if you are satisfied, keep it. If you aren't, look into getting an aftermarket lowering module.

Thanks for the responses.
Hey Baldmike73, excuse my ignorance, but who are Dean and Steve? Do you have a phone number? I'd appreciate any additional input/info that you might have.

Go with Alterted Atmosphere's solution. $350 in parts. 30-60 minutes to install. I love it. Its a hardware not software solution and the up/down suspension still works.

Up/down still works on the MbenzNL/Star Diagnose too.
Personally, I would ONLY ever lower my car with the Star Diagnose method. It is within factory parameters and won't require any cutting and the dealer can never argue with you as nothing has really been altered.
I also would only lower the car evenly. While the gap is smaller on the rear, it is because the wheelwell is smaller. You will upset the weight distribution of the vehicle if you lower the front only and handling will likely be adversely affected as a result.

The Alterted Atmosphere's kit is a set of machined aluminum spacers that mount between the height sensors (2 in front and one in back) and their mounting location. Basically, you fool the computer into thinking the car is higher than it is, so it compensates by lowering the vehicle all within manufacturers spec. The lowered result is about an inch. You can still press the vehicle raising button near the shifter to put the vehicle back to stock height.
What I don't know is what the lowering height would be for an E55 sold in Europe. European E55s are already 1/2 inch lower than US E55s. THe US government makes Mercedes raise the car for US sales.

That looks SWEET BenzBoi! I love the ride height, as that is exactly the look that I am trying to achieve. What method did you use to lower the car? Kleeman? Brabus? Star Diagnostics? Alterted Atmosphere?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I took the E55 to the performance shop yesterday, and opted to go with the Star Diagnostic lowing method. I will be picking it up tonight, and will post some before and after pics.
Given that I have 20's, I went with a 1/2" drop in the rear, and a 1" drop in the front. This should give it a very agressive look, but at the same time will not compromise ride quality (nor will it rub with passangers in the rear).

Nice, can you post some pics after you're done? I'm going for 19" C20 in the spring and I'll lower my car at that time as well. I would be interested to the effect of a drop like that.
Here might be a dumb question? Would it throw off the suspension setup or drivability if I lower the front more than the back? Say 3/4" front and 1/2" rear. I like the look with the front lower than the back, and being that the front wheel arch is higher than the rear, if I went with equal drop, the front will look higher than the rear, which I don't like.

I was running 19's on my E500 and went for the raked look originally, but 2 weeks later took it back to Steve/Dean and went their original suggestion as Dean had on his E55 of even drop.
