Engineering - MB vs Lexus

In a MB one only has to push a button to disengage the traction control. Here is how it is done in the new GS. Insane. I think I will stick with MB.(Copied from "Automobile" magazine website.)

After being continually frustrated with our inability to completely turn off the GS’s traction and stability control system, we recently learned from an anonymous source how to disable the overprotective electro-nanny. Road test coordinator Marc Noordeloos performed the complicated procedure, took a test drive, and, while grinning from ear to ear, pronounced the car transformed. If you own a 2006 GS (or IS), follow these steps and enjoy the slide. Once the car is started, you have thirty seconds to complete the process. With practice, the procedure can be completed in approximately fifteen seconds but, unfortunately, must be repeated each time the car is switched off.
1. Make sure the car is in Park and the parking brake is disengaged before you start the car.
2. Start the engine.
3. Engage the parking brake.
4. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
5. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
6. Disengage the parking brake.
7. Fully depress and hold down the brake pedal.
8. Engage the parking brake, then disengage it (while holding down the brake pedal).
9. Engage the parking brake, then disengage it (while holding down the brake pedal).
10. Release the brake pedal.
11. Engage the parking brake.
12. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
13. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
When “Check VSC” is displayed in the multifunction display along with the “Trac-off” icon indicator, you’ll know that you have successfully completed the procedure.

Are you sure you really drive a Benz? You can't really turn off the TC in the Benz unless you put the car in dyno mode.

....start the car with the parking prake on ....then foot brake twice....(keep the foot brake down)....then parking brake twice (keep it down )and repeat till skid light is on the dash
For the record, the button the the MB dash doesn't turn it off either all the way. You need dyno mode for that.

1) Turn on the car to at least position 1 (one click clockwise)

(2) Change your instrument pod display until it shows the digital odometer

(3) Turn the car off

(4) Turn the car on to position 1 (one click clockwise)

(5) While the SRS light is on, press the trip odometer reset button three times (you must finish pressing the button three times before the srs light turns off and the odometer reset button is a black stalk on the left side of the instrument pod sticking out perpendicularly)

(6) If everything went well, then a voltage display should come up.

(7) Press the "up arrow" on the left side of the steering wheel twice.

(8) A menu will come up that shows esp dyno mode.

(9) To turn off the dyno mode, repeat the whole process if need be and select w/t 15 off.

(10) I haven't tried to turn it off yet, but I suspect it will take 15 minutes for the car to reset modes. w/t 15 off = wait time 15 minutes off (i am just guessing here)

Wow, talking about trying to keep it secret. I am surprized they do not make you run around the car three times while keeping one hand on the body.

That's because VDIM is pretty lax anyways. It interrupts only on the edge from what I read on Clublexus.

At least we have a button and it does allow quite a bit of tire spin before it has had enough fun for the day. I have tried dyno mode a couple of times. Even that, with 3 rapid re-sets, is easier that the Lexus hokey pokey.

Dyno mode disables pretty much all of your safety technologies. It's meant for getting your car to read properly on a dynameter (sp?).

I have listed instructions (from a search) onto this thread a few posts up.

Welcome to MBWorld.org btw!

I believe Lexus has "a button" to disengage the VDIM.

As much as we have a button to disable ESP and BMW has one to disable DSC.

It just disables them 'oh so much' until it intervenes at a higher threshold.

In our 750, DSC cannot be fully disengaged, I don't know if it can ever be disengaged. I tried it and at the track the DSC kept blinking. The M5 however, I have not really took it to its limit to find it if it intervenes.

It probably does the same thing as our button... just allows a little more wheelspin before it kicks in.

I like how my C5 has it. You have Active handling (AH) and traction control (TC). When you turn the car on, it has AH/TC on. If you press the button to turn it off, it illuminates a dummy light and turns off AH/TC completely. If you hold the button for 5 seconds, it disables TC (again, completely), but leaves AH on to save your *** in the most crazy situations - this is competitive driving mode. You can do 500ft rolling burnouts in comp mode, but if you get the tail going too far out in any direction, it reels you back in. You can hang the tail out on corner exits while spinning the tires, but again, get too far off track and it reels you back in

I have tried putting my '01 E55 in dyno mode. Does this work for this car?
