e63 will be faster then M5, look here.

here

Here's M5 standing km time 22.7

Autocar source.
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/att...achmentid=2184

And The new ML63 Standing KM is 23 flat.

Now ML is way heavier car. same motor same gearbox in E class gonna kick freaking ***.

Now can we end m5 vs E55 discussions?

Yes, we can just start E55 vs. E63 discussions. And on that note, I have a very strong feeling the E55 has tons more potential simply based on being an FI engine and it responds well mods. This is why I will have no plans to swap out my E55 for the E63 when it is released.

I'm all excited about the new '63 engines! I think its got something like 3 more BHP than the M5/M6 and well over a 100 more NM torque even though that figure has actually come down from the '55. The new 7-speed gearbox should be the key to this cars performance though.

Only thing is im gonna be sad saying goodbye to that wonderfull '55 badge. Oh yeh, it'll still be around but '63 sounds so weird I rekon.

One more thing, that bigger displacment better not interupt the beutifull throaty groul the '55's had.

The numbers dont really add up. From 0-200 17sec but to 1000m 23sec? The M5 goes 0-200 <14sec and is still barely quicker?

LOL so the ML 63 is faster than the E55? Guess no one thought of it that way

I REALLY doubt it. The old ML 55's claimed numbers were also hugely inflated, as was the X5 4.8is.

I think they're supposed to be out for end of summer / early fall. At least that's what the salesman told my dad (He's trying to decide on getting an '06 E55 right now, or waiting for the E63).

Are there any more spy pics floating around that shows off the facelift that's coming up?

I want nothing to do with a street car with a torque peak at 5200 rpm, The E63 is going to be exaclty like the M5 off the line no low end grunt at all.

What the hell are they thinking at AMG I hope they have something else up their sleeve.

I doubt it. There won't be a "launch control" and has a standard automatic tranny. The torque will be adequate but you'll just have to stand on the brake and rev it to 2 or 3k instead of 1500rpm. The higher displacement will put some of kick back in it.

thats true we won't have to contend with a computer for drag starts although I doubt a stock MB trans will let you get the rpms that high, but for everyday driving around there is no way the 63 will feel as nice as the 55.

I couldn't agree more.. Why the h*ll are they comparing the BMW m5 to the CLS55 AMG. Isn't the e55 faster than the CLS which weighs about 250 pounds more? I have heard that the e55 will smoke a new M5 up to about 100 mph. I am disgusted with this mag. What are they thinking?

You dont need to have a high top speed to cover that ground.. for example some diesel pickup trucks (with mods) will run a 12.5 second 1/4mile at around 102-104MPH, while an E55 AMG runs the same 12.5 1/4 mile at around 115-116mph. they both reach the same distance at the same time just one car is going 11mph faster. 1000meters is a long way a little over 1/2mile so the ML63 might pick up steam quickly after 60mph and that 7speed trany will help a ton.

Coupled to an automatic with a decent amount of torque multiplication in the converter will prevent it from acting the the M5 off the line.

DAMN! If the 6.3 gives the ML that kind of performance, just imagine it in an E or a CLS.

LOL at the 9 months or so with the M5 on top (and only above 100mph :p ) before MB reclaims the crown and BMW M fans get to wait a few more years all over again!

2005 E55
The new M5's speed advantage over the current E55 appears to be only present at speeds in excess of 110 mph. If I really want to blow away M5's in a straight line (and most other cars on the road), it will only take one phone call to Kleeman and some minor bolt-on parts. So the speed of the new E63 is not really the issue for me. There is not much room for improvement there.

Where I would really like to see the new E63 shine is in the handling department. While I like the quiet comfort of my E, I would love to have some of that BMW magic filtering through the steering wheel into my finger tips. And please give me some "regular" brakes that allow for modulation.

To feel the difference between the original SLK's and the new SLK55's at the AMG Challenge leaves me hoping that the same motivation to create a more fun, better handling car is also present in the design of the new E.

I am still confused about one thing. Is the new E63 going to be a wholly-redesigned body? Or are AMG/Mercedes engineering the motor and gearbox into the current 211?

Sorry for the semi-hijack.
