To LSD or Not To LSD, that is the question?

For those how have it, what is your recomendation? Is it worth and did you see a difference?

I have a cls 55 with K2 being installed and I am considering the lsd, trying to make a decision.

2014 GL 350 on order
MGil: I was advised by my upcoming K2 installer that the LSD, at least for our E55, is a 'must-do'. I have enuf problems getting my stock torques to the ground much less adding 100 extra hp and who knows how much xtra tork! Joker

Sorry to break the bad news, but unless you are running with drag radials full time, you will not fully enjoy your cars power without LSD. It should have been standard on these cars and Benz blew it.

Car will be lots of fun from a roll and changing lanes but punch it from a red light and you are a gonna be in big trouble. Don't get me wrong, still lots of fun but I have traction problems with my LSD.....just can't imagine what it would have been like with one tire getting all that juice.

ESP and you are about to become real close friends.

If financially able....have them throw LSD on while she is in the shop......not one person regrets it. Bout 5K extra though....ouch!!

2005 E55
I am wondering why my car always leaves 2 tire tracks, even when the ESP is turned off. It defies logic to me.

With the esp on it uses the brakes to keep the rear wheels from spinning so they each end up laying rubber. When the left wheel spins the computer applies the brakes that sends the power to the right wheel which spins and so on. Probably why MB decided they didn't need an lsd.

Mine also lays 2 strips with the esp off so there must be something else going on.

Euh?!?... If I may, what is LSD? And why does it help? I've seen many mentioning it and recommending it, but I don't have the slightest idea why. Allegedly it would makes an E55 faster, but why? Thanks for shedding some light on a very confused mind.

Limited slip differential.

When a wheel slips, you lose torque through that spinning wheel. What a LSD does is lock both wheels so one can't spin without the other spinning.

When you lock one wheel forcing it to spin with the other, that means both wheels are 'forced' to spin, so you get better traction and better times.

So all in all...gettin the lsd first is a better way to go then to get a stage 1 first, then lsd later? I mean that way you can enjoy all 469 ponies to it's full extent before adding more...correct right? I might just do that instead...I don't like the idea of up-ing the horses when I can't even use my stock horses to it's full extent...anyone fell like I do?

Well, Mercedes cars already have a 'lsd'. Except not.

It's ESP, it's a reactive system. An LSD is an active system.

I say do the K1 and what not and then get the LSd.
