Check out this video: Best Motoring!

About 11 min into it and it compares cls 55 to m5 and guess who won? Also check out the race at the end: Gt-r is hot! So is the Gallardo!

LOl! I don't know what setting the M5 was in obviously because of the language, but my guess is that it was in P500 mode. I mean why even bother against those cars in P400 mode. The car would just get smoked!

And yes the M3 csl was one bad motha! But man that race at the end was crazy!!!! Just when I thought the Gallardo had everyone.......Bam here comes the GT-R and win by a nose. What a great race. I love these videos.

And yes Amg's kick A S S! Did you see how it beat the M5 the first time froma dig and the second time as well. The third time the M% beat him, but just by a nose. That 500 hp advantage sure does not seem like a whole lot at speeds of upto 100-110. Man BMW has gotta be pissed that the Amgs are so close to their 500hp monster. Theya re gonna be cryin when the new amg 63 comes out on the E-class and Cls class.

Actually,
You got to give credit where credit is due. In the first two runs, the guy in the M5 had the car shifting automatically. Of course, it lost those two runs. Finally, when he wakes up, he realizes the M5 should be in S6 mode where he has to shift with the paddles....And in that run, the M5 beats the CLS 55 13.144 to 13.174 (albeit a small margin)
So saying the CLS 55 beats the M5 in the 1/4 mile is taken out of context and to say the CLS 55 "smokes" the M5 in the 1/4 run is pure confabulation

To be fair, the driver in the CLS wasn't shifting with the paddles either. Chances are that if he used the paddle shifters, to let the engine rev higher before shifting gears, he would have smoked him even worst....

the m5 destroyed the cls in handling and weight transfer, u can clearly see how well it manages its weight in transitions.

That is a good point. You can even see how well th m5 shifts its center of gravity vs the cls 55. That is my only gripe about amg/mb why can't they ever get that suspension right like bmw. Either that or make a car that has wheel wells higher up on the car so that it's center of gravity is lower.

I think that is BMW's big secret about their handling. It's just doing it directly from the factory as we( meaning all mb owners) try to do the same by lowering the car with suspension kits. Why can't they just do it from the factory.

Oh and I do agree with the first m race between the m5 and cls 55, but the second and third seem legit to me and I had no idea that the cls would be that close to the M5 given the hp advantage. You just wait til the 63 amg comes out for these cars. BTW how did you guys like the race at the end?

You have to check out that race at the end. One of the best that I have seen.

Unfortunately, not true. I know Victor always uses the paddle shifters in "M" mode, but majority experience is quickest times are achieved by leaving the tranny is "S" mode and letting it do its thing.

FWIW, WayneE offers some solid track launch advice:

ummm.... no.... let's compare the best times for each.... the CLS was way ahead with it's 12.7...... the M5 never broke into the 12's in any of it's many modes....

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
It's obvious to me that the first 2 runs were done with traction control on. The last one was with out ESP. There is no way that the CLS55 will sit and smoke the tires with ESP on.

The conditions and traction was terrible too. Both cars can run much faster under better conditions. Ask AMEN GO

Actually,
I was surprised the CLS didn't do better than 12.7. 12.7 should be achievable doing runs all day long. With the M5, you have to use p500s S6 mode and change gears with the paddle. furthermore, if not using LC (by the way he was laying rubber we can conclude he was not) the already torque limped M5 has no chance of putting up respectable numbers. give it the LC and it is 12.5 -12.7 1/4 mile car

Well, funny as it may seem, that video mainly sold me on the LOOKS of the CLS. That roofline is amazing!
