This car shocks me
...literally. It is now customary for me to touch the door on the upper corner whenever I get out of the car to shock myself and relieve myself of the charge that I guess I build up sitting in the car. Its no little tiny shock either, the damn thing hurts. EVERY TIME! It is getting exremely obnoxious. Does this happen to any of you?

Haha, I've had that happen several times when I would close it touching the upper corner part. Don't worry, you're not alone.

These guys are funny to listen to - some of the callers they get are hilarious - but here's part of the answer... not what you'd expect...

If you haven't discharged that static build-up you must make sure you grip the metal part of the gas pump handle securely causing you to be grounded when dispensing the fuel. If that static charge is retained and the shock happens when at the pump you could cause an ignition and that would be VERY bad. I recall the news covering this not that long ago..

I hit the door handle with the back of my hand quickly before I grab it. Doesn't seem to hurt as bad when you discharge it before touching it with your very sensitive fingers.

I am not kidding, the reason is rubber of your shoes.
Just hold the corner metal and put your left foot to ground and get out of the car while still holding the door.
