How do you spot a re-badger?

There is a car in the office lot from time to time that looks to me like a bone stock E500 (guessing either 04 or 05 model), however it sports an E55 badge on the trunk.

I don't yet have pics, but the question is what styling queues are there to tell for sure? dual exhaust? side badging? etc etc.

Brakes and how low the car sits. The Front brakes on a E55 are Monsters compared to the other E Class. E55s sit lower esp in the front

For the life of me I don't understand why people would re-badge a car to something it's not. Especially a non-AMG to an AMG. The only people who really know what an AMG is are enthusiast. So why put badges on a car to try and fool people who are familiar with the product. My insurance agent even told me of a case where a car (not a Mercedes) had been rebadged, and the insurance company didn't want to pay the claim, because it wasn't the same model car that they had insured! So why do it? To impress who? The average joe on the street doesn't even know/care what AMG stands for anyway! An enthusiast will be able to spot the difference in a heartbeat, then look at the person like a idiot.

There was an E320 that was rebadged as an E55, had the sport package rims, the exhaust pipes were hidden, and it was parked in the lot where the NBA players for the Bobcats parked. Im sure that E55 badge works great when your trying to race!

You may fool some idiots that just don't know much about some Mercedes and just know of AMG being the more expensive models. Like just say you have an AMG car, and your friend comes over to look at it and you tell him what AMG means, he still cannot differentiate an AMG vs. non AMG unless it says it on the back of the car. Now if he sees a rebadged E320 as an E55 AMG he will think its an AMG and know that AMG is good. So again you will probably fool some idiots that just know of AMG as being good, expensive or fast.

That being said i wasted way to much time thinking of that, and IMO anyone who rebadges a car should be shot. :v

a few...
to each their own, but IMO they aren't foolin' the people who know the cars. Anyone who rebadges a car obviously feels inferior enough to lie about their car, so I can only imagine what else they lie about...

Easy exterior differences most rebadgers tend to overlook:

E55 has "AMG" on the front brake calipers.
E55 has cross-drilled rear brakes.

I think debadged cars are hotter. I'm trying to get some time free to get moms trunk repainted to fill in the holes after I debadge her car.

speaking of rebadging, i saw a guy the other day driving an e55 and instead of "kompressor" badges, he had for some inexplicable reason replaced them with "supercharged" badges from a cadillac STS!!!

ok, serious question now...

i was at a grocery store parking lot in burbank CA yesterday and some guy drives by in a black e class with the AMG "appearance package". nice looking car. except he badged it as an "E32 AMG" on the trunk lid. i thought that was pretty funny. best subtle idioticy i've seen yet, for a rebadger...

Pretty safe to assume that was an E320. All you do is take off the "0" and add AMG to the other side!!

Yeah, I know the type. "You ask them, hey is that your E55 and they answer yes, very proudly."

Jesus, you guys really take this personally don't you. I put some AMG upgrades on my car and added the badge...because I liked the look of it. If some ever asked me, I'd say it is 600, not a 600 AMG. Why, because I saw a few 600s with the V12 in back, and wanted something different...so I went with an AMG Badge. Am I causing an imbalance in nature? Cmon guys.

A few extra classes in English grammer, and spelling would be better for you.

2004 E55 AMG
Theres always a brighter side...

Location: Melbourne, M1 northbound.
Badger: E60 Diesel w/ M sports kit (hence, M5 front M5 wheels) + M5 badge!
Giveaway: No side grills, No M5 rear, sissy little diesel pipes pointing up.

There was no need to "race".. we just pulled up even to it, gave him a cheesy smile and blasted away, slowed down waited for him to catch up, blew him a kiss and gone~

FYI: M5's havent arrived down under yet I think (i guess this bloke wanted people to know he had the first M5).. BMW only started showing off the M5,M6 and MZ4 at the melbourne motorshow this year.

Not an imbalance, but why pretend? Why does the AMG badge "look good"? Why not any badge? I don't personally care what you do, but it is just different.

locket: please tell me you have something personal against RBrenton88, because you are a true ash if your attack was not warranted.
