New member saying hello to all!

Hello to the board. Looking forward to getting feedback and getting to know everyone. I just bought a 2006 E55 loaded up. Pick her up tomorrow. Have to say that I am a little apprehensive. I'm coming out of an M5 and have been with BMW for the last 10 years and have never owned an automatic before...but my test drive and the power won me over in a second. This car seemed very fast and with a lot of road feel.

Of course I am already checking out Renntech sites. I am just outside of Philadephia. Anyone from the area on the board? Anyone know of a local tuner? What should be my first mod...ECU and pulley? Will an additional 45HP be that noticable in the usable range of power? I suppose I'm going to drive the car for a few months without anything done.

Any advice for a first time AMG'r?

Anyway thanks for your anticipated feedback and I look forward to some good times here!

Welcome and I am sure you will be pleased with your purchase. They are simply amazing cars right off the showroom floor! Look forward to some photos of the new addition.

Welcome. I used to be a BMW guy too. Had an e36 M3, an e46 M3, and an M Roadster. E55 is my favorite by far though. Might not be as sporty, but it is an amazing package. It does everything so well.

Welcome to the group I also own a 2006 E55 & live in NJ about an hour north of Philadelphia.

To date (< 10,000 miles) I have not made any performance mods, but am still considering some. Right now I am thinking seriously about (i) better sounding exhaust, (ii) lowering, (iii) wheel-tire upgrade.

DEAN62 , i was also a manual-trans guy until i got my e55, and was a little "concerned" about an automatic trans also. After driving it for a week i was very impressed, you will have a lot of fun with it! If you drive it hard it will "learn" your style and the car really wakes up.. enjoy

a few...
Congratulations! You will love the car.

I must ask though, if you are getting a loaded 06 E55, I'm guessing you could have easily gotten an 06 M5, so what made you switch?

Either way, the E55 is an absolutely awesome car, will take anything you throw at it and I never had a problem with mine, except for the rear tires...

Smile Thanks for the warm welcome

Ok I picked her up at noon and have 120 miles and saw the sixers whip Washington. Quite a fun filled day. The car seems amazing right out of the box. Yes I suppose I could have taken an M5 but the Mercedes is nearly 400 hundred a month less then the best deal on an M5. About 7000 less for a comparably eqipped car. It wasn't the money perse though. I thought the M5's transmission sucked. It was nearly undriveable in automatic and in smg it had a tendency to buck and going into gear. Not smooth at all. For the most part the car is 400 except when you flipped the extra HP switch. I don't know it just wasn't awe inspiring like I felt when I got my 2003 M5. BMW acts like they have the 2nd COMING and reluctantly are giving $1500 off list when on the east coast alone there are 80 unclaimed M5's and more and more are showing up on ebay with several thousand miles. Yo BMW get with reality your new cars are unimpressive.

Now onto my new baby...I know that I have a lot to learn about getting the most out of this car. Do most of you operate in full auto or do you use the tiptronic (throw back to my porsche days) shifting? What is your typical set-up with the suspension? Lets hear from your collective experience.

Thanks again,

Daen

Congrats on the purchase man. I'm sure most owners here will agree, full auto is the fastest way to go in a straight line.

Drives Slowly
Welcome Dean,

I was also a BMW driver. I was on my third M3 when I decided to try something new. To be honest, it took me a bit of time to get over the loss of driving dynamics that M cars proved. BMW does make cars that are truly engaging.

Where I believe Mercedes and the E55 outshine the competition is in luxury, utility, aesthetics and power delivery. It can be a sheep or a wolf at your instant command. This sedan is a beast right out of the box and I'm sure you know, that unless you are at a race track this car will handle the E60 on the "streets". Start modifying your E55 and only a few of the worlds best sport cars will ever be able to touch you.

Congrats on your car...............enjoy the ride!!!
