AMG Intercooler system

Guys I had some time to pour over the SLR motor over weekend.. and honestly cannot see how we could possibly get a SLR type intercooler system setup for our cars... There just is not enough space - the SLR has sooo much under bonnet space with the engine set so far back...

Anyhow just a thought ...

No cameras were allowed so no pics I'm afraid. Thing is purpose built and sooo solid... no body flex whatsoever. Can tell the Mclaren boys had their input or sure.

All body panels carbon fibre - which I did not know ... which is real cool looking under the bonnet. All hosing etc from i/c to heat exchanger is braided hoising all perfectly placed and routed. Lots of areo tweaks under the bonnet to get the air to flow properly and a real big ram air scoop in nose.

The radiators are so far back in the nose there is space for 2 more intercoolers if you really wanted.

627 hp ... or there abouts, mmm yummy. But for £330,000 around $575k ? dunno - but I would have one of these before I take a Carrera GT. You got space for golf clubs in boot!!

Rgds Steve.

When I called renntech in FL they said they can do a set uo with the intercooler on top like the slr it was $$$$ though I want to say for all the upgrades they have plus that is was like 35k I may be wrong on the price but the main guy over there said they can do it. Just some fyi if you want to get it done.

I have some pictures of SLR motor. It's designation is 155. I will post them later.

Yes, they can be made to fit, but getting is an adventure. I am reseraching several ways right now.

Drives Slowly
I think you could fit two engines in its bay.

Hi Guys,

Vadim you are correct!!

They can be made to fit, or a larger one than what is currently out on the market however it requires a great deal of custom work, hence it will be difficult to market & sell as a Kit form setup.

If you guys like I can post some details for you.

Please post details!

I have been working for the past month to source some parts and get pricing on what it would take to make this change. I believe in order to go over the 630hp mark we need the SLR intercooler design for efficiency.

Guy´s, the AMG I/C will do the job, if modified. If you fit the bigger pump and watercooler, including hoses, from Kleemann, you will get no better system. The SLR Engine i according to my knowledge, nothing more than an overworked SL55 engine.

I have just had mine done by Kleemann, and the intercooler temp. was a steady 24 Degree Cel. ( 75 F ) at full load ( 654 Hp. ).
