...........best to call a spade a spade. Although both cars have the same engine and share the same chasis, it looks like the E55 is faster than the CLS55. Yes, I know the excuses......not enought drag strip runs, owners of CLS55 being more busy and can't track their cars etc.........but all the peformance info so far shows that the E55 is faster. Very happy to be corrected if anyone has figures to the contrary.

...........On the other hand, the CLS55 is a much more attractive car to look at and for those that care about others attention, the CLS55 definitely grabs more attention. The E55 is not visually striking and you get no attention.

If you don't need the 5th seat, get the CLS. It's a more appealing car IMO. It's a newer model and that body style will not change anytime soon. The new E55 is right around the corner and used car prices on the E55 are dropping rapidly. I love my E55 and wouldn't trade it for anything right now, except for the CLS. My problem is I need the 5th seat and don't have that option. Good luck. Either way you are getting a wonderful car and I think you'll be happy no matter which you choose.

Get the E55. The CLS looks like a hooptie ride.

Your worst nightmare...
If you are a ladies man and need the attention get the CLS, IMO much more attractive like some members have said, the E55 is nice but more of a Sportier car, for example tunning and racing and all that fun stuff. I would get the E55.

I just had the same dilema and chode the E55 for personal nostalgia (and the lease rates).

I would go with the E55 because of the Panorama Roof. It is the one thing that you can not get on a CLS. I was kind of upset that the CLS concept had it and the production CLS does not. I would wait for the 2007 models to come out. CLS63, E63 more power for the same money.

If you're tall stay away from the CLS. I had one and traded it after a few months for an E55 for that reason.

I would buy whichever you FIT in, as stated above, the CLS is not a car for people over 5' 8" IMO. I am 6'4" 220 and while once in the car, I fit fine, its the getting in and out that makes it tough. Alot like the Lotus Elise.. it may just be a matter of "learning" how to get in and out with out hitting your head.. LOL.

Whichever you chose, enjoy! And make sure to post a picture!

A couple months ago, I would have been the first to say CLS55 all the way. After owning the E55 and seeing more and more of the CLS, I have definitely changed my mind. I don't really like the body styling of the CLS anymore. The w211 E55 is PERFECT in every respect!

I'm probly going to get flamed for this one, but does anyone else think the CLS "kind of" resembles the Jaguar S-type? You can't deny there are definitely similarities.

Smile No Problem Here!!

I am 6'-2", 195 lbs. and have no issues getting in or out of the CLS, and there is more than enough room in the car, once I am in. - Bob

E55 is tough looking. CLS55 is softer and sleek. I like tougher.

if I had to choose ... CLS.

better handling and just about the same ETA and trap speed.

E55's have known to trap better and have better 1/4 results, but with time the CLS drivers will be there.

were are talking .1 or .2 difference on avg between both cars. The Traps speed are consistent 114, 115 for the CLS and the E's are running 114, 115, and even as high as 117 stock.

I would definately go RennTech Stage 1 as soon as I pick it up and work to get the headers.

Suspension will just need the lower module and the CLS body is already more stiff than the E's body.

you can fit wider tires and rims on the rear, for more traction.

However, I will settle for the classy, powerful E, since I need the bench seat. Also the price point is more in my budget (03's or 04)

The E IMO is a better looking car than the CLS. The CLS still reminds me of the Oldsmobile Aurora from about 8+ years ago and i don't find it comfortable at all. I find the wood trim is dull and looks bland. For me the E stays more true to what a MB should look like. Whatever you get will be great I just prefer the meatiness of the E!

Might want to consider that the CLS is becoming a girls car to. 2 dealships I've been to they both said it's mostly women who look at the CLS. It's becoming the bigger cousin of the SLK.

I do think it is a matter of personal preference. I took my wife to look at the 2007 S550--- she truly didn't like it. There was a CLS55 at the dealer, a customer's car and she thought it was hideous. She saw a new E55, Alabaster white with the pano roof and we left the dealership with the car that day. I personally liked the CLS initially but the rear view is starting to turn me off.

I agree... The PANORAMA ROOF is a sweet option on the E55 and CLS55 does NOT have such feature.

Get what you like and dont worry about what others think... At the end of the day, you gotta be happy with your choice.

To each his own. You should get the car that you like best, not the car that you think other people will like.

In my opinion, the CLS will (very soon) look dated. The E55 has classic lines and, I think, will hold its attractiveness much longer. The fact that the E55 does not grab the "attention" that the CLS does is a huge plus. It is (except for the wagon) one of the ultimate "stealth" cars. Its sleeper status is the main reason that I purchased it -- oh yeah, maybe the torque had a little to do with it .

In the end, get the one that you like and don't worry about others, or what they might think.

Looks like E55s win!! What did you expect posting in the W211 Forum! Oh well, I'll take my "PERFECT" CLS55-030 and drive off into the sunset , lost in the absolute joy of it all and leave all you winners alone!! Now, if you ask me , I would buy the CLS55 - Bob

I had the same choice to make and chose the CLS. It's unique and very uncommon around here. It sounds mean as a ***** and I love it.
