I am from Dubai.. It IS him, he's the Middle East rally champion, and one of the most profound (not mention crazy!) tuners out there.

He did this job on a SLK and I saw the images, some people thought they were photshoped coz the hood had to be cut-out and the mightly Mclaren engine was protruding.Went there myself and checked it out, it's for REAL!

How does his SLR engine makes somewhere around 730 HP ???

 

No, it is about 622 Hp. An SLR engine is nothing else than a 55 AMG engine tuned like done by Kleemann, Renntech, etc.

I saw this guy on Discovery displaying his car, nice work done. He has a whole stable of cars, and a racemechanic to modify them.

if only we could get our hands on SLR cooling eh? E55 would be so much better i guess.

 

Evosport is supposed to be working on it.
From the pics, it doesnt look as difficult as once believed. Notice the large heat exchanger behind the bumper and the water hoses running to the SLR coolers. Obviously teh bumper has been cut as well as the hood in order to clear these parts. I think people have been scared to cut up their E55's so they just assumed such things would never fit.

 

I was jus bout to put that link of the SLK with the SLR motor running the enzo. I can't wait to see how the E55er does with that motor in there!~!

 

You are talking about stock SLR engine, it can be further tuned to 730 HP...at least MKB offers this modification...

So I assume HIS SLR engine more power then Stock SLR engine, otherwise there is no point to install SLR engine...

Btw US your K4 SL55 uses stock ehaust system with Primary CATS removed and Secondary Cats replaced with 100 cell Kleemann Cats or they are stock ones ???

Not true. Someone more knowledgeable about the differences can chime in here, but as far as I know, they are not the same thing.

 

For one the SLR engine has a dry-sump design and a completely different intercooler set-up than the 'standard' 55K engine (be it modified bij tuners or not).

 

Actually, it appears to be similar to a Kleemann K4 55K engine. It's running about 2 pounds more boost (13.1 lbs max), has more agressive ECU programmng, has a high-flow exhaust system, and is running more cam timing (as determined by the higher HP and torque RPM points). Add to that the dry sump system and more efficient IC system, and you have the 600+ HP rating. There are probably other, more subtle differences, but they won't have as much impact as those stated above. Also, the transmission has been beefed up to handle the increased torque.

 

Cats are stock ones.

 

What ever you say, but basicly its nothing else than an overworker 55 AMG engine, and in general looking at an SLR, and see all the SL stuff that has been put into this car, its defetnly not worth the money. Buyer can exspect a unike car for that money, not an upgraded SL.

Have you ever driven one? I haven't, but I know people who have (on invitaiton from McLaren on the Top Gear racetrack in the UK). Apparently the misconception of 'an upgraded SL' goes away pretty quickly when taking it to the limit. It appears to genuinly be 3x the car an SL55 is. I hope to find out for myself once...
